Would like to know before I try my retail chip. Thanks

Well it's like this RickA if you return the chip for warranty and it has flame marks all over it that will be a bit of a give away 8)

Well this depends. you see lets say you overclock it and then the chip gets really messed or fried, then you wouldnt even have a chance to set it back to normal speed, so they may find out that way.
But on the other hand, lets say you have a succesful overclock, but for some reason you dont lke it and want to change it back to normal speed, then havta take it in to get a refund (example), then they really have no idea whatsoever that it has been overclocked.
So the basic point here is that you would be able to overclock it without them finding out, as long as you dont go nuts on it and fry the chip before you get the chance to set it back to regulation speed.

If it is a P3-600E and you are running it at 800...how can they tell that they didn't mismark it? LOL

Well, since all PIII's are locked (less the "E.S."), when you take your PIII 600E back, they will put it in their stock mobo, and it will or won't boot, but at 6x100...they might take it apart, and look for arctic silver..a dead giveaway that it's been clocked...I mean only overclockers know about that kind of stuff, right?
But what can do once they have found out??

hold on here....
my celey 400 was locked...
y?
u sayigna ll p3s without the Es are unlocked, but y is my Socket 370 chip locked??
it SUCKS!!!
oh well, trading it for stuff
just cos it's fried doesn't mean you overclocked it right? I would have thought they would have looked for tale tale signs such as...
a) artic silver thermal paste
b) chips
c) on AMD chips - pencil marks
d) Epoxy resin.. Epoxy Putty
e) Pretested to 1300mhz stickers (lol)
f) I overclocked this engraved in with a scalpal.
g) Pin taping, pin connecting for more voltage.

Right. The only way they could tell is if ya mod somehow (wiring, lapping etc.) But no, OC'ers aren't the only folks who know about AS. We are, however, about the only ones who will spend the extra for it :):)

To put it simply RickA if you were to put all the settings back to the way they were before you clocked it before you returned the system, and there are no visable signs that you have tampered with it, then they would have a hard time proving you ever touched it...
