well let me see i tried to run the damn thing at 115 fsb and it gave:
crap os protection error
i take it i need more power captain
well do i change voltage on slotket or mobo

Welcome to the forums....you've come to the right place.
What voltage do you have set on the slocket, default? If so, try rasing the voltage slightly. The general rule of thumb is to keep the increase under 15% of the default setting. To figure this out take default, and add 15%;
D + 15% = Max vcore
Raising it higher is possible, but not recommended. Higher voltages greatly increase the chances of electromigration. This phonominea will kill you chip almost as quickly as high heat.
Speaking of, you didn't mention what you are using for a heatsink/ fan arrangement. If you are using the intel hsf, that might have a bit to do with it, as well. DON'T EVEN BOTHER getting a "Gorb" hsf....they can't cool sufficiently at higher vcore settings and bus speeds.
Highly recommend an Alpha PEP66T hsf for this application. This unit is designed for a s370/slocket configuration. I replaced my Gorb with one, and my temps dropped around 8 degrees celcius. It might be a bit expensive ($30 or so) upfront, but it absolutely eliminates heat as a source of concern.
So....what is your vcore setting, and what hsf are you using??

its funny you say the alpha cause i bought it after a few good reviews i read.
i was disappointed in the build quality of it because it was very poorly made.
i was wishing i bought the globalwin, but that changed when i hooked it up i get 28 at boot up im not sure at full load.
its got a 5400 rpm fan i have a 7000 but its like being at the airport!
The default is 1.75v for my chip which is at now, both on the slotket and the softmenu
So should i increase the voltage to 1.85v?
Easy Rider, actually, the default for your P-III 800 CPU is either 1.65v if it's a cB0 stepping or 1.7v if it's a cC0 stepping, not 1.75v as you stated. The probable reason the BIOS "thinks" the default is 1.75v is because the slotket is set for 1.75v. Which is ok when you're trying to overclock. I'd try increasing the voltage only one notch at a time and carefully check temps and test for stability. Try 1.8v in the BIOS first and see what happens. Assuming the Alpha is properly installed and you've used a high quality thermal paste, 1.85v or even 1.9v should not pose a big problem, but watch those CPU load temps like a hawk. Good luck.

Hey, don't diss the AlphaPEP66! The Heatsink itself is very high quality, so I think you are referring to the aluminum shroud. Did you ever work with or handle alminum plating? It is very fragile, so you should take care and tighten the nuts to mount the fan very carefully. That's all...
Well, Those little ol 800E's can be a Big ol pain in the A@#!
My 800E need's a pelt to get it over 960mhz. You do need to change the voltage to acheive an overclock on these chips. My chip is a slot 1 though, a little different then yours.
My core voltage is @ 1.9 to keep it stable at 1008mhz (126FSB) with an 86w peltier. Running cpu tempsof 13 to 14c at an idle and around 24c under extreme and I mean extreme cpu load! never goes above 17 or 18c while gaming! Any temps above 29c while @ 1000mhz or more will cause lockups while gaming or wont even load the game.
Thats why I went from an 50w peltier to an 86w peltier! With summer comming I needed something to get the temps down a bit more, other wise it wont stay stable in the summer.
I have a PIII slot 1 alpha cooler, along with two 80mm intake fans in the front of the case and the PSU and another 80mm below that to exhaust air from the case.
Just wanted to give you an idea of what i got going on seeing as I have the same chip.

Can one of you guys tell me the best cooler for a slot 1 P3? Email me at: twissman2000@hotmail.com
