I'm looking to overclock my p2 266, and am wondering if it the multiplier isn't locked. Sys documentation is as follows -
"shipped 3/2/1998. {pre locking?}
Microprocessor type Intel® Pentium® II with MMX™ technology
Microprocessor speeds:
233 MHz internal/66 MHz external
266 MHz internal/66 MHz external
300 MHz internal/66 MHz external
333 MHz internal/66 MHz external
Compatibility speed can be set through the system setup program (all cache memory is disabled to simulate compatibility speed)"
In order to change processor speed I must change a jumper setting to boot to maintenance mode, from which I can set processor speed. No bus speed is mentioned so does this mean that the cpu speed is changed by altering the multiplier?. It only warns not to run the cpu at a higher speed than purchased in case of damage.
My mainboard does not have any other jumpers to change actual mainboard clock speed. (Its at 66MHz)
Said maintenance mode allows up to 300MHz cpu speed-Is it so simple as to boost to 300MHz and, given adequate cooling, be ok?
