How do i find out what the steeping is on my processor, and how can i tell what stepping it is from the intel id number?
I have a p3 1ghz and i was looking to buy a cC0 Celeron 600

get CPUID its a quick download I think they may have it at tweakfiles.com
CPUID and SiSoft Sandra programs will identify the stepping for you. But, a quick way to identify a C-600 is to look at the top of the chip (where the heatsink attaches) and see what default voltage is printed on there. The cC0 stepping should be 1.7v and the cB0 stepping is 1.5v.

thanks guys for all your help, my p3 is Cc0, is that good? i know that a cC0 celeron is the best overclocker, but i can only take this chip to 1.13 with cheap ram. Also, is thre a way of telling what stepping the celeron processor is BEFORE buying it?

As batboy mentioned the voltage stamped on the chip would be a good indicator
Cardboard package the cpu is in has prod code in it (at least my PIII 700 package has). Comparing the code with Intels chart will tell the stepping.
I wish I would had that knowledge last summer when I bought this cpu - it is cA2 and I can't get it stable over 805 MHz.

I want to again say thanks to everyone for the help, it looks like i'm gonna take my chances and buy whatever celeron my local store has. I was just wondering though, should i have a problem overclocking on the MSI MASTER sloket? i'm gonna use it on a pos mobo i got off of ebay the mobo is a Epox BX2 440BX Chipset.
