problems burning 8x dvds

i bought a iomagic 8x dvd burner recently and am having problems burning. It will burn fine at 4x, but I cant seem to find how i set it for 8x. I have the latest version of nero, updated firmware and drivers. Do i have to have 8x media in order for nero to give me an option to burn at 8x? I have tdk dvd+rs and have read good reports with them burning faster.
any help is appreciated.

If it can do it, the pulldown box in nero should give you the option to burn at 8x. That burner may need the 8x media to burn at that speed which would explain your problem, because the burner will only allow that speed on certified media. Some need that and some don't.

I second the notion that it's the Media. Also check for the latest Firmware.

some burners will burn 4x media at 8x, like my Plextor 708-A for example...

my memorex 8x dvd+r burner which is a rebadged Lite On burns TDK +r at 8x speed with nero. havent tried other media yet except the memorex 4x media that it came with which also worked at 8x :)

yeah i would say its the media and the drive not wanted to try to burn to 4x media @ 8x. (even though burning @ 8x isnt worth it if you're burning dvd video, or if you are burning data and want to have a 100% perfect burn) :cool:
