Yeah. When I purchased my Maxtor 160 Gig HDD, I started using it as my primary and only HDD. Windows XP without the first service pack can only read up to the 127 GB mark per partition. I think I had to install something like "Maxtor Mad Blast 3" or something. Now I can not partition or do anything with Partition Magic...it doesn't even open. I currently have my 160 set up in two partitions to fix this problem... a 40 and a 120.
Is there some way that I can get rid of this software so that I may start using partition magic, have a 160 GB partition, and possibly even partition of a small section for linux? Anyone who has any experience with this maxtor drive thingy, please help me. I'm completely at a loss.
By the way, I now have Windows XP Home SP1 installed, so my windows is fine past the 127 mark.

it's Max Blast 3....not Mad Blast 3...I think I may have found what I want. I'm removing the DDO (Dynamic Drive Overlay), is that right? Oh yeah, should I be worried about linux crapping up my system? I don't want to lose my precious files....
If you files are 'precious' they should be backed up before you do ANYTHING. That way you can safely do whatever you need to, or incase something unexpected happens.
Chances are removing the DDO will make the current partition inaccessible (I'm not sure about that). So backup before you do that...

Guess what....YOU ARE RIGHT! >_< Luckily, eMachines is saving my life. It's a good thing I don't have many precious files to back up on it's 40 gig HDD. It no longer booted and I dont believe that it will ever boot with it's current partitions. I'm going to format it all as one drive and see if I can't install a copy of windows with SP1 pre-installed.
To install XP with SP1a installed use Slipstreaming, this is to correct and turn on 48LBA access.
Here's a guide on Slipstreaming. (http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?object=article.cfm&id=160)
