Current specs:

P3-700 FCPGA/Abit SLOTKET!!! AlphaPEP66T hsf
Kingston PC133 128MB SDRAM
Asus P3V4X
Western Digital 20.5GB HD
Leadtek Winfast GeForce 2 GTS
Linksys 10/100 NIC
SB Live! Value
Pioneer 16x DVD

Ok, I can get up to 781Mhz no problem, but anything over that and I get a Windows registry error. Anyone know what causes the windows registry error? It happens in Windows(when I can get into windows) as well as boot-up.

What stepping (version) is your CPU, do you know that? What about your case/CPU temperatures? Do you use thermal grease?

My stepping is a cA2, which I know isn't the greatest CPU in the world. I applied a thin coat of Artic Silver II and my current CPU temp is 33 degrees celsius, case is 30 degrees.

I have similar P3 700 flip chip cA2. The highest stable o/c I can get is 805 MHz with 1.75 V. Even 2.05 V won't help. I've used it on 866 MHz/31 MHz PCI bus though - run Sandra and even played some ½ h before crash. Temperature never gets high - max 35°C at the base of heatsink.

I think cA2 is just poor performer...

Bit pushed for time so aint got the time to do the maths, but it could be your PCI speed is too high for your HD to like it, hence causing a registery error... if it's not that though, it's most likely your CPU doesn't wanna OC much as stated above. I have a ca2 650 @ 820 and it won't really go any higher without becoming unstable.. PEP66 cooler, loadsa case cooling, 1.8v, temps are 31c under load, around 20c idle... poor chips :(

Yeah, its a common fact that the ca2's aren't that good oc'ers. You would probably be better off with a cb0 or cc0. Sorry m8! I don't think we can help you much on this one.

--->> Ok, I know the problem here for sure.
The problem peripheral is your HD that is bolded by me. HDs like Western Digital and Seagate like mine sux big time for overclocking... especially the med- lower grades. I get automatic registry error upon cold bootup between 125 and 133mhz FSB and up.

Option 1: Get a Hard drive that is designed for super high FSB. I dont know exactly which one is the best but find out.. but, I do know that the IBM Deskstar 75GXP handle well at highly beefed up FSB clocked machines.

Option 2: Either leave the computer on for one day or two and it will restore the latest registry records when you get registry error next time. Or/and save the registry for the backup and use it whenever that happens. And then, Ignore the registry crap and keep on overclocking as high as you could go. It won't make any difference whether you OC a little or high, you'll have to put up with registry error nomatter what.

I have done this method over a long period of time on my HD and it works great. I've been running at 152- 153mhz FSB for long time now and I get much less registry error. It's upto you which way.

Also, Yoda Blues's problem is about Registry Error, not so much the CPU Temp issue. Even though he got cA0 cpu, it's the Hard Drive that is causing the problem. yes, correct.. it is the HD that is having difficulty handling the off spec'ed PCI bus.

I don't consider 107 MHz FSB as super high... :) 107 divided by 3 is 35.7, which shouldn't be all that bad.

Cool. I thought it was a hard drive issue more than anything else. You guys rock! When I get back from class, I'll try all your suggestions. BTW, this AlphaPEP66T kicks ass! It dropped my idle temp about 15 degrees! I'm getting under 30 degrees nows! And I think it looks cool.....hehe, of course this is from the guy who has Hawaiian print all over his box and a Dancing Hula girl right about the DVD....I'll have to post a pic next time I get my mom's digital camera.

Here something interesting....I tried to push my FSB up to 133Mhz, with the hopes that at 133Mhz the PCI will be pushed back into spec, but my box won't boot and I get CMOS beeps which indicate a video error. Could it be my power supply? i only have a 250w.

No .. that's not what I meant Allan. I said about the HD for super high FSB is what he should get in order to overclock farther in the future. I thought we all know about this... He needs some overclocking head room also. Let's not limit him by only stick with that little bitty 107mhz fsb. =0
