i know this aint the place to be putting this but i have no choice beccause no one answers me or even tries to help.

im trying to install windows 2000 professional on my pc. im installing from a freshly formated 30 gig hard disk. when i run the setup, in DOS, it says i dont have smart drive installed do you want to continue. iknow that smart drive doesnt really matter to have so i continue. the next thing i see is a message saying is that it couldnt install boot loader, and im forced to exit.

what is boot loader and how can i fix this problem? also what is smart drive? how do install that? is it some sort of memory manager for dos?

any way can you plz help me with my problem because 2000 runs rock solid and the only way i can install it is by installing windows ME first and i dont want to do that

Make the win2000 setup disks from the cd.
Thats what I did.

Isn't the procedure of making bootdisk similar to Windows98/SE?? If so, do the following..

- Put your empty floppy diskette on your floppy drive.

- Press "window icon button" on your keyboard, press "s", and press "c"

- You'll get window popup there. double-click on Add/Remove programs Icon.

- Click on "startup disk" tab. and click on "creat disk.."

No the setup disks win 2k makes are not the same thing as a boot disk.
It makes 4 disks that run the 1st part of the setup from the floppy.
Read the readme files on the cd or search microsoft.com
Sorry I cannot remember how I did it but it was built into the windows 2k cd.

I wonder if booting from the cd might do the trick here. Have you tried that??
