View Full Version : Is using a SLOTKET makes reading of temp.sensor inaccurate?

Before, I had Slot 1 chip on Aopen AX6BC mobo and the sensor (I think) was just under the heatsink , and touching it.
But now after using a IWILLslotket II , I think the readings are not accurate, becouse the sensor is not contacting anymore the heatsink.
Is anyone put attention to this fact, or are you guys just omitting it?
I think that this problem presents in every MOBO, so..
Or maybe I'm wrong and the sensor (small green plate) gets the measuring by some other way...(I dont think so.. 'couse in this case the slotket should be able to transfere the readings to the MOBO- too complicated).
Any explanations?

Intel CPUs have on-die thermal sensor (I think from somewhere P2). Slot 1 has connnectors B14 and B15 reserved for temperature. It depends on you slotket and motherboard if the sensor is actually used.

I have P3 700 FCPGA on Asus slotket which is capable of transmitting temp information but my Asus P2B-F actually doesn't take advantage of the feature. It has 2-pin connector for CPU thermal sensoring.

I find hard to believe that CPU temp sensor would in any slot 1 mb be on board itself because CPU would be far away from it anyway. The thermometer IC of course is on mb.

from the deschutes core onwards intel put an on die thermal diode in there chips, this sends a signal usually to a maxim 1617 chip, this chip also has a sensor on it, now the sensor on this chip is usually accurate to about 3oC, but the info coming fromt he on die diode can be way off for several reasons, one it may be calibrated wrong, secondly the signal travelling to the 1617 chip may be altered along the way (back door cooling is thought to do this)

I doubt it'd effect the temp readings.. mine seem realistic enough on my IWill Slocket II but my old Abit Slocket III used to show temps fluctuating a lot.. strange :)
