what kind of mod? Enquiring minds wanna know. (well at least us idiots do...like me)
He said mobo mod, but because he was asking about the VID pins, I'm assuming he's trying to do the CPU "wire trick" to fool the mobo into thinking the chip has a higher default voltage than it really does.

kinda makes sense....but what does it accomplish?

well, i just put in one strend of copper wire into the hole on the socket then put in the chip and run it! it work on my cC0 chip!! and now i had joinning the Gig clud!! damn happy with that!!
Shadow, on an Abit board, the max voltage allowed depends on the default voltage. With my cC0 P-III 700 with the SE6 or SA6R motherboard, default was 1.7v and the BIOS allowed up to 1.95v. I did the wire trick to change the default voltage signal to 1.8v. Now my motherboard allows up to 2.05v. I still can lower the voltage down to 1.5v too. Allows more flexiblity. Warning, don't raise the voltage too high up until you have excellent cooling. Do you smell smoke???

hahaha......i do know about that!! how come a small tiny copper wire can support such voltage eventhough are not very high. but if for long term, sure will burn out and spoil the chip!! so now i lower it down and try to burn in with 1.95 V, hopefully can post into w2k at that range!!
Actually, the wire does not carry the full required voltage. It just provides the signal to the motherboard as to what the default voltage is supposed to be. The motherboard itself supplies the voltage through other pins.

then it make no sense why the pic in hardopc.com show that one chip got burn out at the place where we vidpinning?? i thought it was overloaded!! humm.....
