View Full Version : celeron 533 ppga
it looks like the last of the line chip for my system. from the board it looks like alot of people are getting 666 mhz out of it with 83 fsb. i have good air cooling with my alpha heatsink/fan. my computer runs rock solid with my 466@584 right now with the 83 bus speed. i would like to go a bit faster than what im going but i don't have the cash to buy a new system. any opinions here.
i have a bx6 rev 2 motherboard
You should have lots of great options with that Abit motherboard. You probably just need a BIOS upgrade. It is a slot one motherboard, right? If so, get a slotket adaptor and then a cheap Celeron fc-pga chip like a 600, then overclock to your heart's content. Email me if you're interested in a good Celly 566 that will do 952 MHz guaranteed complete with an Abit slotket and awesome Alpha PAL6035 cooler.
ok batboy you might have a deal here. im going to try to update the bios and try my friend pat's cellery 600 to see if this works first. hold on to that chip. if this works i'll buy it from you.
I have overclocked several ppga 533s and have never had one run satisfactorily beyond 600MHz. They were the last of the family, and already pushing the core REAL hard. Without extreme cooling, I haven't heard of many folks doing any better than I did.
i was doing 566 with my celeron 366 so i think 533 can go easily beyond 600
Tim's right, about 550 or so for those old Cellies is about max. You had an exceptional chip if you got 566 stable from a 366 CPU. You must be livin' right and/or just plain lucky!
Yep, 600 is ya limit with the best air cooling... the CPU architecture isn't good enough for anything higher unless you fancy having a go using a peltier :)
