Ok. I just installed a new volcano 7+ hsf with arctic silver. I'm getting 42-44C idle on low fan setting. The thing is I have a couple of problems while overclocking. First here are my specs.

Athlon XP 2400+
K7N2 MSI Board
512 ddr 266Mhz Crucial
200GB hd with Windows XP pro SP1
350 Watt power supply

Now, for some crazy reason, I CANNOT mess with the voltage or then the comp will not boot, and I have to reset the CMOS. I first put it at 1.7, then put it in 1.6, and nothing. SO i have to keep the setting to "Configure by H/W".

Now the other thing is, that when I try to change the CPU FSB Clock (default 133) to some thing higher, i tried 144, then 140, then 135 windows didnt want to boot. Some error comes up saying, it couldn't start up and to restart. I also noticed, it detects the ram as being ddr480.

Now because of those two issues, I have no idea what else to try. Now my first though was maybe the RAM had something to do about it. since I read the Ram and fsb, go with each other, I thought maybe if I had RAm with higher MHz (333) maybe, I'd get better speeds.

So in the end. What IS going on? Any help or suggestions is glady welcome.

You are not running your RAM in sync with FSB, set the FSB and DRAM speeds to 1:1 ratio, then you will be able to boot at higher FSBs, 480DDR = 240MHz, which is probably too high for your crucial.

alright, i put it 1:1, but i still have the same prob with windows not wanting to boot up. :-\

well some nforce mobos don't like these low FSBs, if your CPU's unlocked try starting from 166, up the memory voltage a bit and loosen the memory timings. Look at my sig, I'm running the same RAM you got at 209MHz. It should do 166 without much, if any problems.

Alright, I messed around with the ratios and it's at 5:4 and i have the CPU going at 140MHZx15. So it's 2.1GHz. (140 is the most I can have so windows will boot) Buuuut, I ran 3dmark03, and the comp restarted. 2.1ghz is too high, especially with the cooling probs I have (another thread).

So I will keep on trying and messing around. Thanks

Is the power supply doing the job..I am thinking 350 is to small ....

What graphic card are your running, and do you have a pci lock ability in your bios, if so, lock it, and tap your agp voltage up,
also
check your cpu/pci ratio, you might try setting it to a 1:5 or 1:6 divider with the pci if you can, and if you don't have that option, as my msi KT4 Ultra did not, I went all the way to 166FSB to get to where the 1:5 divider automatically kicked in and ran there completely stable, otherwize, I couldn't even get stable at 145FSB

Try that, hope it helps.
