Okay, I'm convinced - lol - the 9800....

is a NICE card. I just got done playing Far Cry, AND....

1. The birds scared the hell out of me - I've not seen them before
2. Ditto for the fish
3. NOW I know WHY they can't see you when you're prone - there's GRASS!

With previous settings (1280x1024 med, no AA/AF) I got 40 - 50 fps. Now at the same I get 60 to 70!

I can up the AA/AF to medium & textures to high! Frames drop to 30 range, but it's smooth (& looks great).

Anyone says the 5900 is better has dookey for brains - lol.

Clocked the 9800p to 400/350 right out of the box - could go higher?

Did you enable AA from the ATI control panel or from within the game settings? Whenever I tried to enable AA inside the game, most of the textures are missing. This happens on two different computers in my sig both running 9800NPs. I also tried two different catalyst driver versions, 3.10 and 4.1.
I think you should crank all the detail settings up to highest and have another look. Runs great on my machne 1280x1024 maxed details (but no AA).

I turned AA/AF off w/ Rage3D & turned them up to medium in the game. I'm using the Det 3.9's, that's what's recomended on the Far Home page (http://farcry-thegame.com/uk). They say ATI cards MUST have 3.9 - being an ATI noob I took this to be gospel - lol. Over at the FC forums that's the most often cited approach "off in control panel & on in game".

I did have everything on high, that's when the birds scared the hell out of me - lol. I was sniping from the dock where you get the rifle, saw something move out of the corner of my eye - slewed around - BLAM! Only then did I realize it was a bird - lol - of course it then occured to me that a bot wouldn't be in a tree.

The grass was great, much better than the "painted green ground" previously. As I said I kept thinking "why the hell can't they see me, I'm right here in the open" - now I know why.

I'll try turing the AA/AF off next time, there doesn't seem to be much use for it @ 1280x1024.

Another funny one was playing UT03 this AM - launch the game & it still says "Nvidia, The way it was meant to be played" - LMAO - NOT! (guess it keeps the intro based on the card when the game was installed).
