ok, following is a screen shot showing the results of my speed test. I have a regular cable con. and have used other speed tests which all come out roughly the same.
If i'm not mistaken, my speeds are way faster than a T1! how can that be? Does anyone know what is going on?

Why oh why won't they break out for my neighborhood?
I can see the head-end cable from my house, but it's "not available in my area".

I was able to walk over to a telephone pole and hole the coil in my hand, but they still didn't let me have cable until 6 months later.
I know being able to see and touch it sucks, just hang in there, they'll set up soon!

Wow, I'm downloading at 1mbit, but uploading at 142KbPS. I wish I could upload as fast as I can download.

..........Why doesn't it work out that way?

Just checked mine at dslreports.com and came up with this

http://www.theforumisdown.com/uploadfiles/1203/speedtest.jpg

It is about 500kbps faster than the last time I checked about a month ago. Upload still is needs some work though. I'm on Insight :)

It's all about the way the line works. It is faster to send information to your computer than it is for your computer to send it out. If all the lines were optical that would be a different story.

I work for Wide Open West.

Most of our customers average in the 4Mb range... (Yes I know that a very certain select people are in the testing phase at Comcast for 6Mb) But most of WOW's customers average in the 4 Mb reliably.

I can hit 5, even 600 KB/sec when I download from websites, at least that's what the little Windows Dialog box says, so that's 4-5mbits/second isn't it? When I test it's only like 1.4mbits. Weird.

WOW in michigan 2.0Mb connection is getting this currently:

http://jeffsrig.no-ip.com/oc/speedtest217.PNG

Rarely, I get slow speeds, but overall I get above-what-I'm-paying-for results. I heard that WOW is going to bump us up again.... but I'm not seeing it yet. I could probably get more if my house's cable lines weren't so noisy:

I think thats the reason why :D

OK, I have gotten in trouble on the internet for this and almost got fired like 3 times now... so please....PLEASE don't mention my name.

That picture you have Digginforgold, is a picture of a slightly sloppy job. Usually I don't see a 2-way going immediately into a 4 way? I don't work in installations or with the installation contractors but you might want to call customer service and ask for a QC guy to go out there and inspect it for you. That way, they can at least make it look a little nicer.

By the way, I'm not sure what speed people are getting in Michigan for thier top speed. I know here in Chicago that our middle speed is 2.0 Mbs and our top speed is 4.0 Mbs Typically you see your speed is slightly over 2.0, that is because at times of extremely high traffic it may slow down a bit, and because you pay for 2.0 Mbs at all times, we turn it up just slightly. This is pretty much standard for most Broadband companies.

By the way, do you have our new High Definition service yet? That is sooooo cool! We are getting 3 more channels on it this month if some deals go through. Also, I think we are launching our telephone service this year too. This has been a exiting company to work for lately.

I would say it is a job that he or someone in the house has done and if he called they would probally charge him extra for every extra connection made

The cables with the purple necks look like they were done by a cable company. Mine are blue. I had a signal booster hooked up outside my house, the cable guy came by, took our cable booster out (he kept it, WE paid for that cable booster), put in one of the cable company's boosters, and charged us for it. ****ing cable companies, ripping off the customer at every turn.

Anyway, the point I meant to make: if a cable person does come in, they will indeed charge you for every connection, or else a very high flat fee. A different cable guy came by my house, saw my connection, shat his pants, and left us to deal with the tremendous amounts of ghetto I had going on. Still haven't fixed the connection up properly

Edit: Holy crap, diggingforgold, is your sig wordy enough? lol

I work for the company. If you ask to have a Quality Control guy come out and take a look, (Or just send him a picture of what you posted), we will not charge you for fixing the problem. You are a customer of WOW, and we have no problems maing sure our High Speed Internet works and looks good.

Just call (866) 4WOW-NOW or the number on your bill and ask to speak to the QC department or a manager.
