View Full Version : fluctuating voltage
according to hp doctor on my bx133 the cpu voltage fluctuates up to .1. this also causes the temp to fluctuate about 6 degrees.
Also, I will take off the hsf and reapply thermal paste to see if that stabilizes the temp. It runs plenty cool (22-26 depending on ambiebt, 30-34 under load).
i am thinking of upping the voltage to see if I can get more fsb out of her but I am hesitant because the increased temps w/ fluctuation will put it into the mid 40's under load.
what do you guys think?

btw, just ordered a cco 700E and pc166 ram...what a junkee...

/\ ....nice...
Sounds like a power supply problem to me as I have not heard of this happeing with your board before. How many watts is it. This really could be an overclocking problem because .1V does make a big difference in stabability. Stabalizing the voltage would probably reduce heat and improve stabibility. Power supplies are not that expensive and considering the improvements it is probably a worth while buy.
I have never heard of voltage fluctuating that much, mine usually fluctuates 0.01v between full load and idle(1.71v at idle or 1.69v at load) and at higher voltages I have seen it fluctuate up to 0.03v, but what you are talking about is a whole Vid step change, perhaps you have something conecting with the Vid pins on the chip, try taking it out of the socket and making sure there is nothing touching the pins

i done the vidpinning b4, and my voltage report by mobo monitor also fluctuate around 0.1- 0.4!! i don't think is relate to vid pin problem! coz b4 i do it, it also fluctuate but not that much1 about 0.2-0.3! i'm using VP6! i set the CV at 1.95 at bios, but mobo monitor report 1.99V! see!!!
hmm... i don't think it's the pins because it picks up the default voltage- power supply, I was maybe thinking that could be a problem- it's only 250 and i have like 3 case fans 4 drives+floppy-
the voltage does the standard .o1 oscillation and once every second or two leaps up. do you guys think the temp leap is caused by the voltage leap? any other ideas? thanks!
