hello ive just joined and am looking to overclock my P3 550
which has a vh6-II main board ive check some bench marks and looked at a few of the beginers articles, but what i have found out is to over clock it, all i need to do is slowly up the FSB in the soft menu little by little and thats it.
This seems way to easy any suggestions?

consider getting a better CPU cooler... a lot of people like Alpha, its expensive, but good.

Please spend time reading more articles in this and other forums at this site, you are on the rite track with your FSB but when you get to high with your FSB and you get some instability you will have to raise your core voltage to your procceser this is what will start getting your procceser hot getting a good heatsink is a must if you want to really push your machine

thank you for the advice, i'll start priceing out an alpha in my area

since i am just starting though i was just thinking to up it 40-50 mhz, is that to little to see a real difference? the article i found on the board said that the FSB was able to be uped 1 mhz at a time for 66-200mhz
i'm not sure if i read that wrong or not, if this is so then if i increase to 600 mhz from 550 little by little, i should'nt need to worry about the voltage, would that be correct?

Get in your bios and under soft menu-3 you will find FSB and VC adjustments [user define] if you take it up to 6 you will be fine, you can take it up until it is unstable and then bump up your CV until its stable and then go a little higher so on and so on but watch your temps. You can probably go straight to 600 no problems maybe 650 then slowly find out where it will go. Go to the CPU data base and see what other guys are running with your chip to get a idea where you can go.
