Thanks

Try to keep it as minimal as possible... ABIT suggests that you keep it under 55'C. I've heard that golden orb wasn't created especially for overclocking, so if you can, try getting a better cooler. A lot of people like Alpha coolers.(I've heard the best one is Alpha PEP66T w/Delta 38cfm fan, but it is expensive, but Alpha has a lot of other good coolers).

And see how your system temp. is doing...
the cooler the computer, the longer it will live.

Good Luck!

ok, first ditch the Gorb, it really is a bad cooler, and only does a decent job, and it tends to crush cores on cpus. it really is not a great HSF. You will want to get something like the pep66 from alpha if you don't have a KT7 from Abit. Globalwin coolers are also really good too for cooling. Both are not that expensive (www.2cooltek.com has them for good prices, they are a good store). You are running a little hot, and would be doing much better to get those temps out of the 50s. Also, using some thermal compound between the heatsink and cpu core, would help out a lot, especially if you get Arctic Silver II. With summer coming, your temps will probably go up slighty, and you are on the edge of the temp range. you really need to be lower like into the 40s, and even into the 30s with a good hsf. Get a new hsf, they are not that expensive to get.

You're chicken? Mine is set to 45.... I'm not calling myself a chicken, I just don't feel like spending money for a new chip.

I dont even like to see mine in the low 30's under full load but my house can get cold sometimes :) and ive done many cooling mods. I tried burning in my p3 1g by putting back to original speeds but high CV and let it get to 50c for 5 minutes and I ended up losing stability had to turn my FSB down to 160 from 166 a loss in 48 mhz, maybe its a wierd chip who knows.

Intel's own specs are 80-85 degrees Celcius

Most overclocking runs stable below 50, but running that hot for an extended period would not be recommended by most overclockers.

Cooling's the key -- If you want to lower that number and guarantee both stability and longevity, get the best HSF you can afford.

Thanks for all the thoughts...I think I will try a dirrerent HSF cause when summer hits around here it will probably drive the temps up a few degrees. I do get lockups when It gets around 52-55c Only seems to happen when I try and play Falcon 4..(The ONLY flight sim IMHO)

I actually may give the motherbord CPU to my son and start a new computer...any suggestions as to the best MB CPU combo?
