Agreed. We'll need the indepth system info in order to be able to accurately assess what needs to be done.

I take it you have a socket 7 system and an intel mobo, the only way I know of on how to overclock these chips is to raise the Front Side Bus, to do that, you'll have to learn where the jumpers are on your board, I suggest you check your manual, or do some searching on the web for the jumper settings, should'nt be that hard, though I havnt heard of 200's going over 233mhz, so I wouldnt expect much of a performance upgrad, thought it might get you at/over the minuim system requirements of some old games.

I have an old p233mmx chip from my old system, couldnt get it to budge, I know have a powerleap adapter and an amd k6-2 500mhz chip in my old system, if you are interested in upgraded I'd look at www.powerleap.com

Check out their socket 7 area, if you need any help my e-mail is Treker_@hotmail.com

Maybe I can help you find the jumper settings on your board if you could give me a name and model.

Good luck!,

once upon a time, 3 years ago as I recalled, I had a PI 200mhz and 233mhz Oced up to 250mhz on the Soyo EH5 Mobos. Now they are retired, doing nothing, and the AMD K6-2+ 450mhz is now in place of the Socket Super 7; Oced up to 6x100mhz=600mhz. I paid $40 for this great AMD chip, which has 128 cache on chip and running very cool at 2.3V core. AMD has been great lately... Duron, Athlon and even K6-2+ for the live forever SS7 mobos :-) :-) :-)

Want to up grade your old socket 7 mobo? Get a AMD K6-2+ 450mhz for $30-$40 on the web and read this http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/00q3/000713/

my motherboard is only upgradable to 233mhz
the FSB was already at 66mhz
and the Multiplyer was at 3
my motherboard has 4 switches, all i had to do was slide one of them on to get 3.5x

I got my 166 to 233.
Buy a new mobo if you want higher.
It is safe

the upgrading process is very much depend on your mobo, RAM and components and the latest Bios. If your mobo does not support 100mhz fsb and higher multiplier then it is not worth it worrying about it. It is the time to get a new system. Timing is right. Things are cheap now, CPU, RAM, MOBO... you name it. Be advise that there is a new OS on the horizon, called Windows XP, which required at least a 300mhz and 64 RAM but it is at best on a 500mhz system and 128 RAM... so.. Move on gentlemen :-) :-) :-)

I have a K6-2 500 I also have a AMD K5-PR100 and an Intel original p100 - *and* a great Intel mobo - INTEL 8430VX, and 512K of PBSRAM L2 cache -
*but* I just cant get it working and I have no way of knowing if its the cpu(s) or the mobo - this intel mobo supports the pentiums and AMD K5'2 (wierd eh?)
