I have an intel pentium mmx cpu at 188mhz i overclocked it from 166mhz i can go higher to about 210mhz. I have a very good cooling system. The problem is when i go to 210mhz it starts to load up thewn stops and gives me options to enter safe mode or regular. If i enter safe mode it freezes up. If i enter regular it brings up the following error message:
While Initializing device NTKERN or VMOUSE OR CONFIGMG windows protection error. Each time it loads a different one of the three error messages.
Please give me detailed answers i already read alll the forums and beginners guids they dont help one bit

from what your saying i'm pretty sure you need to raise your core voltage to your proccesor this will bring stability back and let you get windows booted up if your memory cant take the overclocking see if you can turn it down if possibly and see if that helps i'm betting its core voltage though.
good luck

Bu core voltage do u mean cpu voltage because if u do it was already set to 3.5v even before i started. Is there something i need to do in bios. mOr is there some other kind of voltage settings.
Thanx, Bye

some boards you change core voltage [yes voltage to your processor] in your BIOS some on the motherboard with jumpers. From my point of view its hard to say weather its memory or low core voltage both will do just about what your experiencing. Remember some chips overclock better then others hopefully your not at the limit of your chip. good luck

Could be solved by bumping up the voltage, but I have a gut feeling its simply your memory not handeling the high fsb speeds.

Could you give us some more info on why kinda of mobo/cpu/ram/temps you have?

Thanks,

Hi first off it is set for a high voltage in the motherboard not bios. If you now how how do i change the settings in bios. Secondly I have a matsonic ms-5120 mobo 98 megs of ram a 166mhz intel pentium mmx cpu at 188mhz and the temps are farely low about 25c mostly stable. I have all my simm ports full with memory can i use me dimm ports to add extra memory if you think thats the problem.

Thanx for taking the time to help this brain dead out.

the amount of memory slots you have full sometimes will make a difference ive heard stories about guys with all of there slots full and the computer did not overclock well, you can try to just use one stick of ram and see if you can get higher that way atleast you may narrow down the problem. I'm unfamiliar with your motherboard just to let you know. If it's not obvious where the core voltage setting is in your Bios you may not have it there and if you do have jumpers on your motherboard I think you probably do not have it in your bios, hope i'm wrong but with the info you provided i'm tempted to think its a memory problem not core voltage. If memory is your problem see if you can turn it down in bios if you have the option to do so in bios.
good luck.

Hi its not my core voltage because that is set all the way up to its max. So ill go ahead and put a stick in one of the other slots. Ive got another pentium II 400mhz oveclocked at 933mhz i had no problems with that its got 234 megs of ram ill just take a stick from there and stick it in my other computer. How much more do you think i need so if it works i can go out and buy some.

Thanx for helping me.

1 stick of ram is usualy more stable then 2 or more, get what you can afford quality ram defenitly overclocks better then cheap ram. 128 to 256 is plenty for your machine I dont think i'd get carried away maybe you could get ram that would work in your machine that you could also use in a better machine when it comes time to upgrade.
