just starting to get into ocing and I have this mobo and cpu just sitting a box,had it for a couple years,I was wondering if there are any overclocking tricks that I can use on it:D ...thanks

well I guess I am just going to have to make mistakes then ask for help.I was hopeing to practice and learn on this mobo/cpu combo so I could build a newer system to do some folding with.my oncoligist says that folding helped in the research that led to the devolepment of the drug I take(gleevec)for my leukimia.if anyone has any advise about this mobo/cpu combo please let me know,it came out of an h p computer.,.,.thanks.Joe

That is a good old motherboard you have there. You could get a 500 MHz K6-2 for it, and make a fun spare computer. Here is a link to a site with a patched BIOS that can support up to 128 gigabyte harddrive, http://web.inter.nl.net/hcc/J.Steunebrink/k6plus.htm .

Even with a 500 MHz CPU, it'll be a slow folding machine. But it can fold, and slow points are still points.

There ought to be silkscreened voltage, FSB, and multiplier settings on the board. You could probably overclock your 233 by bumping the frontside bus to 75 MHz. You might make 83. Changing the multiplier might be possible, might not. You'll have to try it and see.

Take a look at this sticky, http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=112907

Here is a review with some good information, http://www.sysopt.com/mreview/asustx97.html

Have fun!

Edit: If it is an HP Asus, you may not want to try the BIOS. HP use a proprietary BIOS. I have an Asus P2B that has the HP BIOS. There are two small soldered dots labeled Phoenix, and two labeled Award. There is a small resistor across the dots labeled Phoenix (HP use Phoenix BIOS). I read a report of someone flashing the standard Asus Award BIOS to an HP P2B, and getting a dead motherboard for their trouble.

Oh yeah, welcome to the forums!
