I just picked up a PIII 450 for a great deal, FREE!!!

I have a K62 450 now running at about 504 stable.

My question is, will I have better luck, and performance from the PIII? Plus any input on a good mobo to use would be great too.

Thanks

Should be easy to get to 600, but it does need a god HS/Fan. I used a Alpha P3125...

im not being intel biased when i say this :). your new p111 will give you much more performance than that k62. i have 2 k6 2 chips and i have nothing good to say about them. my P2 350(before oc'd) would kill them in games and benchmarks. your pIII is much more overclockable than the k6 series by a long shot. i would suggest getting a good motherboard (abit) with a lot of fsb and voltage options. get a good alpha heatsink and you will be good to go for 600+ mhz. amd people dont get mad at me, my duron system is in the mail

Thanks for your input. This is very reassuring. The performance from the K6II was ok but lacked big time for a cpu running @ 500 mhz.

Any more input on mobo would be great. I have looked at the Abits. is the bx chipset a better deal?

Thanks again guys.....
