High, ive been reading some of your posts and doing my own benchmarking, but no matter what i do, i just cant see to come anywhere near the same score as people with similar systems. I was hoping that people could post and hints or tricks that they use to get the best scores on 3dmark here. thanks!

what are your system specs?what are your scores?

*edit*took a look at your profile so I'm gonna guess you get around 12-13000

Actually I don't think so. It's normal for you to get around 10k at stock speed. I would say no more than 13k no matter what you do.

theophage, your P4 1.9 and PC1600 memory are going to seriously limit your 3dmark01 score. As you have probably read, 3dmark01 tests your entire computer (CPU, FSB, memory, and video card). What is your score BTW? Do you have a link to it? We may still have suggestions to improve your score.

my system specs have changed a bit from my profile

p4 1.9@2.07 (mobo cant change voltage)
512pc2700 running at 2100 cause mobo only supports that, but timings are as low as mobo supports also
geforce4 ti4200 64mb running at 300/575, i installed 4800se drivers, or else it wouldnt even run the higher end tests.

my current 3dmark2001se score is 8100 before i installed the 4800se drivers, i was getting in the 5k's

on another side note, my processor is an early version and only has 256k l2 cache, and another reason im going to guess that i can only overclock to 107fsb is that the mobo cant change the ratios to the other bus speeds, so it overclocks everything.

107? err, not 133? Yes, FSB is one of the most important thing for FPS.

slowest p4 with 133 fsb was 2.26ghz

im currently working on an athlon 2700 on an abit nf7 v2.0 board... if it will ever boot up, im getting a new cpu tomorrow

got the new system to boot up, gonna wait for a new case before i actually install and OS and such

so far ive gotten the mobo to post at 220x11.5 and 200x12 without any change in voltage. should be a bit of an upgrade =)

would you recommend using an msi gf fx5200 or gf4ti4200 for best 3dmark scores?

The Ti4200 will blow the FX5200 away in 3dmark01, and they will be close in 3dmark03 (only because the FX5200 supports DX9). If you can afford it, the FX5700 Ultra would also be a good choice. Here are the top scores for all of these video cards:

3dmark01
Ti4200 = 21,171
FX5200 ultra = 14,238
FX5200 non-ultra = 11,662
FX5700 ultra = 21,275

3dmark03
Ti4200 = 2352 (the Top score listed is fake or an error)
FX5200 ultra = 2545
FX5200 non-ultra = 2120
FX5700 ultra = 5623

Just how did you get 21,171 with a Ti4200 in 3dmark2k1SE? What test settings were you on? There is no way for a Ti4200 get 21k score in 2k1SE on default test settings without a 10GHZ+ processor. So are the rest scores. Seem impossible for those cards at default test settings.

with a A64 overclocked its possible to get 21K in 3dmark2001SE if the TI4200 is a good overclocker

#18, those are not my test scores. Those are the #1 published scores on the ORB for each of the video cards listed. I have no idea what the default scores are for those video cards, or even how you would determine what the default scores are, since 3dmark01 is highly dependent on your overall computer setup (CPU, FSB, and memory).

Like Steven4563 said, the 21k was scored with an A64 running at 2.7 Ghz and the Ti4200 overclocked to 392/803.

Highest scores submited lol. No wonder. They are all 60% too high compare to average scores on these cards.
