I will be overclocking a PIII 700 for the first time this week, and will be using an Abit VL6 mobo. Does anyone have any tips? I have the bios flash, but don't think I'll need it... via chipset drivers, 133 mhz bus (looking for a clean 933 /133 FSB overclock... hope I did my math right) What are the voltage requirements? PIII chips seem to be picky concerning their voltage. So far I've seen overclocks at 1.65 (regular voltage) all the way up to 1.90(!!). I should also mention I'm going to use the stock fan included with the retail chip. The build will only have to last a year or so before upgrading and reselling the cpu and mobo. I really don't care if it runs a bit hot, as long as it runs stable (otherwise I'll get jets or liquid cooling).

Think that about covers it... thanks for your help.

get a good hsf
you could get it to over 1ghz

Thanks for the advise. maybe down the road a few weeks we will... I've looked into this a bit, and 1140 is not out of the question for an extra $25.00 hsf. I'm wondering about the generic RAM running at anything over 133mhz.

lol

Thought since Shadow's came back from the past I'd revive my first thread ever here... :D

Coincidentally, this machine (actually running on a VH6  ) is still running and is finally going to be performing the movie editting it was first intended for...

My PIII 700 is running at 1.02 gigs set at 145 fsb and ram at 145 with default voltage 1.65.

I think this one would too but the memoru ( (3) 128MB egenric chips) are holding it back... would be great for a tweak/folding machine in the future ;)

I purchased a 700 MHz PIII in the summer of 2000. It runs perfectly at 933 MHZ (133Mhz FSB) without any heroic cooling efforts and at the default voltage. It also does not seem to mind 1008MHz (144MHz) FSB but I do not now run it this fast because of other limiting hardware.

I strongly suspect that there is no difference at all, other than the marking on the chip and the fixed multiplier setting, between this 700 MHz chip and all the other PIIIs at faster rated speeds.
