P3V4X
667EB flip chip
running at stock voltage and speed!
golden orb HSF
using Prime95 in Win95 OSR2
using a slocket to plug the cpu into the slot1

The case is completly open
My friggin window fan is blowing air right at the mobo.
(tried turning the fan around, and it did not change anything)
asus probe reports the mobo temp to be 26°C
PS: thats 78°F "ambient" and a chip temp of 125°F

This seems really high, does the slocket screw up the temp
sensor?
I would say that the ambient temp is more like 68°F

Thank you for your time and have a good day

This sounds more like the heatsink might not be sitting flush on the chip's die. Check to see if the Gorb is on straight, and flush with the top of the cpu.....

Also, the Gorb really isn't cut out for cooling an overclocked chip. For direct replacement at default settings, and light overclocking, they're ok, but I would seriously look into getting something better. I'd recommend either an Alpha or GlobalWin product.

What did you use for thermal compound?? Did you use the stuff pre-applied on the Gorb?? That Dow Corning stuff is not nearly as good as Artci Silver thermal compound. If/when you get a better hsf, look into getting some of this, if you don't have it.

looking at pricewatch I am seeing the following:
Alpha PEP66T
is this the one you are referring to or is there a different model I should look for?

yes I am using the Gorb pre applied thermal paste.

I have not even over clocked this thing and it is running hot!

The PEP66T is one of the top performers. Also it would be a good idea to check out the cooling tips and HSF reviews from the front page link.
Ain't that right Mr B?

Good call Slake.... BTW...great pic of the truck. Looks good!

Well, to be running a flip chip on the mb you have, you must have it slocket mounted. The PEP66T is designed especially for that type of application.

I've got a C600 here that wears one, and even when I had the vcore set as high as 2.05v, it kept the temps nice and low (don't think it ever hit 40c with the PEP on it), and that's with a 60x60x10mm Delta fan. I've got a 60x60x25 Delta 38cfm "hair drier" en-route from Kansas. When that gets here, that will be enough to get me to put the C600 back in for a while (I've got my P/// in there now....).

I'm hoping that it will let me get a bit faster at a higher vcore setting. I really think I maxed the chip out at 1053....I got it to run at 1020 at 1.95v, and I'm hoping the better fan might let me get 1036 at that setting.

I could go on and on on how good these hsf's are. They really are the best. (IMHO) Look into the Arctic Silver as well. That's a can't miss item.

Try going to the Asus website and do a bios update. Apparently, some Asus Mobos had this problem. I know, because I was downloading the latest bios update for my Asus board. I also recall reading about this either on OC.com or Anandtech.com

i have bios 1005
I can't find anything more current than this.
I think that the monitor is 10°F to high.
The mobo temp with the sides off the case and a window
fan blowing at the mobo read 78°F
but the ambient temp was only 68°F as told by my little digital
temp guage and that was the high for the day.
The computer is near a window and that window was open(thats
were I got the fan from :))

What does the hardware monitor in your bios read?
