I just bought one retail and as soon as you open the box and look and the chip it has some thermal stuff and on the heatsink it has some white thermal thingy so if I want to put artic silver do I take this off or apply AC with it. First time opening a retail box

Remove the thermal paste on the heatsink and clean with alcohol if you plan on using Arctic Silver instead. You will only need a very small amount...nowhere near the amount that was already on there.

I think Artic silver is too good for your retail P3 HSF. Are you planning on getting a nice HSF? then use the artic silver..
it's little of pain to get the artic silver off because they are some tough solid silver stuff.. the thicker you apply this thang the harder it is to be removed.
