Call of Duty is the Quake III engine. All you would have to do is look up the command for that at PlanetQuake (http://www.planetquake.com).

I don't know it off the top of my head. Check to see your fps with /cg_fps 1

Don't rely on us to get you high.

i use reforce. winxp only allows 60fps in any game, so you have to bypass it. google reforce and download it. run it, it should detect your monitor, make sure it says [ACTIVE] in the name. click auto populate, then yes and ok, then reboot. next time you play a game, your fps will go as high as your monitor/vid card will allow. i get 85-100 fps in CoD. when a server is packed with a lot of people, or if its on Brecourt (dont know why) i go down to 50 fps. havent seen it go below 40, though.

Windows XP does not lock you at 60FPS in any game. I have used both XP home and XP pro and in BattleField1942 and Desert Combat I was getting 100FPS with my old GF4 TI4600SE and was getting 100FPS with my 9700Pro ran 6AA and 16AF.

i dunno. someone told me that windows xp (home or pro) only lets you get a maximum of 60fps. i played mohaa (and all expansions), cod, and bf1942. and i always wonderd why i never got more than 60 fps. then some guy told me about this and i dled reforce and ran it and ever since then ive been getting 85-100 fps in all the games above unless the graphics were tunred way up (CoD). all the mohaa games i can turn them all up no problem, but CoD i have them tuned down a bit.

Yes, it's more of the fact that you're locked to whatever your refresh rate is, if you have vsync on.

Its because you have vSync on and that you are running a lame refreshrate on your monitor.

Whoever told you that it was windows was talking out of his ass.

Well, the reason people blame windows is that it i slocked at 60hz at every res by default. If you want higher, you have to download somehting to fix it... Or just not in play in Vsync. I personally think 60fps with Vsync is better than not havin vsync on, though.

well something was locking my games at 60fps, i dont know if it was windows or vSync (i have no fooking clue what that is) but, the program he told me to use fixed it and im happy now that i have 85-100 fps in most games.

Vsync = Locks your fps at the refresh rate of your monitor to eleimate 'tearing' in games
The refresh rate your monitor can display. Most average monitors only display 60hz

Doesnt matter if you can get a higher fps than that, your monitor cant display over 60fps if your refresh is set at 60hz. Vsync is an option in your graphics card settings and/or in games. Has nothing to do with windows.

Vsync in the graphics card drivers is enabled by default, as well as most games.

I always leave it on because tearing makes the game look like ass. but I run at 1600x1200 @ 100hz with a 9800pro so its not much of a problem for me :D

Its a major problem if your using a craptastic monitor that cant get higher than 60hz and a high end videocard. If your fps is more than twice the refreshrate of your monitor you can easily notice tearing in the game.
btw: Tearing looks like when the top and bottom of a frame are seperated slightly so a straight line in the game looks broken. Easily happens when the gfx card is outputting 2 or more frames for every refresh of the monitor.

yeah ive gotten that a lot, where a straight line is cracked. i thought aa would fix that, but it doesnt. ive got a samsung syncmaster 955DF monitor. i play one game at 1280x1024 and the other in 1152x864. how can i fix this "tearing". my fps are at 85-100 but i still get it even with aa on.

You really cant. Basically with vsync off, the way I understand it, your screen is split in half and each part is displayed seperatley, which can cause the screen to tear. Vsync keep sthem in sync, so it doesnt do that. So you could turn Vsync on to get rid of it... You may also be able to lock you fps at say...85 or so an dit may not tear as much...

Check the stats on your monitor and see what hz i can do at 1280x1024, and then use a program (think rivatuner can do it) to change the hz at that resolution to the max your monitor supports.

i got that utility, but im confused on how to use it. if i turn vSync back on, is there a way that i can get more than 60fps in my games? would you you mind showing me how to use that program?

If this is your monitor: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-001-119&depa=0

than you should change the refresh rate at 1280x1024 to 75hz. I would set the other res you gave at that also.

in the preogram, you should basically see some where 'Refresh Rates", "Vertical SOmehting-or-other" and inside should be a list of resolutions with the hz they are currently set at. You should be able to change them like that.

What does it matter? There isnt *that* much difference between 60 and 80fps. Plus things look better with vsync turned on.

If you have windows xp do this:

Right click on desktop > Click properties > Click the settings tab > Click the advanced button > Click the monitor tab

Make sure theres a check in the box that says hide modes that monitor cant display (running a vsync your monitor cant display is a sure way to kill it). And select the highest one available for the resolution you are running at.

If 60hz is your max try lowering your resolution. If you have an nvidia card you can specify what refresh to run at for each resolution setting (doesnt always work though). ATI cards just run off the windows setting.

Unless you run with vsync on you will get tearing. You will have to choose between the tearing or 20 extra fps ;)

alright, i did that and the box was already checked and the highest refresh rate was selected (this is what reforce does). now, how do i turn vSync on?

It is an option in most games, Look in the video options for vsync.

You can also do it in the videocard options. I see you have an ATI card so do this:

Right click on desktop > Click properties > Click the settings tab > Click advanced

In the open GL and Direct3D tabs there is a slider option (2nd slider from the bottom) that says wait for Vertical Sync. Set them both to always on.

you could just turn the frame limiter off in the graphics section of the game. :)

ive seen tearing and it sucks id rather it be 85fps and smooth and clean than 150fps and all wiggly and tearing sometimes when i used to have the vsink off in BHD i would look at the wall and think i was on a acid trip. duno what thats like but im sure it is something like that..
