View Full Version : I s it Heat or the Chip?
First off I have the gorb and I know what everyone is going to say, get rid of it. But I am not sure if I have a heat problem or a chip that won't do 1GHZ. Cel 667 cco at 1000ghz running sandra burn-in locks after a couple of minutes (windows protection error). MBM says 46-51c degrees. Is this too hot or do you think the chip just can't handle it? I have upped the voltage as high as 1.95.
I am new here so I am relying on your expertise, I really don't want to spend $35.00 for a better HSF.
I am using radio shack compound.
Any help appreciated.

Dude, you dont think achieving the 1 gig mark is worth the small price of a 30 dollar HS&F and a little arctic. I think heat is part of your problem. Good Luck
go to this site, and see what is the max temperature your chip can handle

Actually, when OC'ing max temp is irrelevant. I know that the max temp on my 566 is much higher, but it will start getting flakey in the 40c+ range. I do whatever is needed to keep her below 38c.

I let my chip get to 50c for 5 minutes just trying to burn it in a little better and I lost ground now instead of being stable at 166FSB i'm lucky to gety 163FSB but my chip is a 1gp3 and I don't thinkit can take as much heat as yours. [ my reply is food for thought ] I do think your temps are to high and you should try and get them down before you figure out weather its a heat or lack of core voltage.

If you add it all up $88 for cpu $15 for gorb and another $30 for new hsf I could have bought a amd 1gig for a little more. I am trying to cut my losses. If I knew it could do the 1gig with new hsf I would do it tomorrow.

Unfortunatly your in the heat range where your chip could get a little squirrelly. If you manage to get your temps down(40c or below), I would think a better assessment could be made..Good Luck.....BTW I'm with you on cutting costs computers can eat you up.
I just read a great review on the thermoengine HSF.
I guess www.Azzo will be getting them on or around 4/24.
$39.00 with 7000rpm fan.
I just might try one since it can be used on AMD and Intel so when I upgrade later in the year I will have a good HSF.
