View Full Version : Abit BX6 Rev 2 temp probe placement
I just picked and installed a P3 700 cC0 and Alpha P3125 w/ Y.S. Tech fans. I am currently attaching the temp probe to the CPU. It is as close to the die as possible. Is this the best location to attach the probe for accurate temp results?
Thanks for the help.

Just make sure that you don't put the censor in BETWEEN the CPU and the heatsink...

Hi, I have the same board, and I am using the temp diode in the cpu core. This is much more accurate, and there are no wires to run. You can use your thermister on your video card instead. I am using motherboard monitor. Certain versions of the BX6r2 have the cpu temp monitoring enabled, some don't. (like mine) I had to do some minor soldering to get it working. I believe the instructions and parts list are at www.bxboards.com. Good luck.
FragBait , can you please tell me the differences of the readings between on-die temp and the cable ?

Hmmm, that was so long, and so many cpu's ago. I was running a celeron 300a at 450 when I modified my board. I believe the cpu diode showed 3 to 4C hotter than the thermister. The main difference is the reaction time. With the internal diode, temp response to a load is virtually instantaneous. With the thermister it was 3 to 4 seconds. Hope this helps.
This 700 @ 933 is the upgrade to my old Celeron 300A @ 450. I wasn't able to find the fix to enable the CPU temp sense.
Anybody else know where this fix can be found? I didn't see any info on the Abit site about this board even having it. I only have RT1 (system) and RT2 (remote thermistor).

Download "Motherboard Moniter 5 " and go to its site.
And this page should help you http://mbm.livewiredev.com/comp/abit.htm
-FragBait , thanks. I hope there's just 3 or 4 degrees differrence
I've been running MBM for a little less than a week now. I run RT1 on Winbond 1 and RT2 on Winbond 3. These are the settings that match Hardware Doctor and the BIOS temp readings. I've tried Winbond 2 P2-Diode and I don't believe it's accurate at all. It's reading 127 C right now. If it were accurate, I don't think my machine would have handled Sandra Burn-In for the three hours I ran it for yesterday afternoon.
Does anybody know what I can do to make the Winbond 2 P2-Diode work?

Sorry about that Roy. I meant to reply, but started a new thread. I figured you would see it. The link is http://www.benchtest.com/rt2.html. Good luck.
