I am trying to change my cels FSB to 100 and my multiplyer to 7. This will make it so that my pc use the 64mb PC100 I have in it. So a: is there anything I should be aware of? Multi locks or somthin? and b: is it worth it?
The smiley is what will happen to me if I screw something up. =P
Sys specs:
CPU: Celeron 700
Motherboard: Giga-byte 6VXC7
RAM: 64mb PC100 (Adding 128 soon)
Video Card: Voodoo 4 4500 PCI
well you cant change the multiplier so that's out the window. and with a multiplier of 10.5 1050 might be a possibility, check the cpu databse.

and it's nothing related to P3 in this case anyway

There is a multiplyer lock? Damn. (And abt PIII, they run at 100mhz FSB so changing my FSB makes my cpu an equivilent to a PIII)
Not really.
First off, good luck. These chips are notoriously hard to get to 100 FSB, due to the high multi they run at (10.5x) They usually hit the ceiling between 950 to 1000.
The general rule of thumb on the Celeron vs the P/// is that in an similar rig, the Celeron II is equal to a P/// running around 200 MHz slower when overclocked.
ie, a CII at 900 is equal to a P/// at 700.
This is due to the memory bandwidth increase of the higher FSB the P/// runs at, plus the far superior L2 cache the P/// has.
There's been a few people (Carmine Paterno in particular) here that have played w/ the C700, most haven't had much success. Not that it's impossible, just very difficult with these chips.
Make sure you've got really good cooling...they'll run hot with all the vcore you'll need to get it to go fast.
Good luck!

As usual Mr B is right on top of the crux of the matter, and I can't add anything...but would like to ask Mr B, now that you have switched, are you having more fun now with the 600E, or when you ran the cellie?

Holy Christmas, yes!! I'd seen Tim (our esteemed new moderator) post that once you move up to a P///, you won't want to go back.
I pulled the 600E out for a bit this weekend, to do some temp testing on the Celeron. The C600 has a PEP66T on it, with a Delta 60x60x10 fan. I've got a 60x60x25 Delta 38 cfm "hair dryer" coming, and I'm curious to see what that will do for temps. Made some notes on the temps (idle and load....).
The P/// usually runs at 153 to 159 FSB (918 to 954 MHz), it won't cold boot at 159, so I start out at 153, restart, and change it in the BIOS 2nd time thru (still can't figure this one out....???). The Celeron doesn't like to play nicely with my Asus P3C2000 for some reason, and won't post over 112 FSB (1008 MHz). Even at 2.1v.... (snobby Asus mb don't like Cellie's I guess...)
So, with no other changes being made, we went from;
P/// 600 @ 954 (159 FSB) to C600 @ 1008 (112 FSB)
Just lowered the FSB. That's it.
It took TWICE as long to boot into Win ME. I timed it, too.
Ok, Tim, I'm convinced....lol That high FSB and the P///'s better L2 blows a "faster" Celeron out of the water with ease.
I still plan on building a rig around the Soyo 6BA+III and the C600, but I might just build for sale, and take the $$$ and get one of those 700E flip chips I'm seeing everyone have great luck with.......
I'm taking a good long look at those 1.33 AXIA's too....dayum, those things post some hellacious numbers!!!
