View Full Version : Overclocking a Slot 1 P3`
Howdy all,
I'm a bit of a novice overclocker. Would someone point me to the info on how to unlock the multiplier on the Slot 1 Pentium 3?
Thank ya,

no prob.. m8
I've heard the same thing, has to do with the type of chip, etc. I have a PIII 750 at home, slot 1 (100MHZ bus), and I will always have a PIII 750 (until I upgrade my mobo and CPU to a P4). It's not that bad, I have generic RAM so the under-clocked RAM is guaranteed more stable. I rarely utilize this CPU at 100%, so unless you need some hardcore processing power, I wouldn't sweat it... the increase in performance on PIIIs is greatest with an extra investment in cooling, which offsets buying a better CPU from the start.
Overclocking is a geek's toy. I overclocked my video card! Normal people are pleased with 40 frames in UT, I needed 42! It's an obsession and has little to do with practicality. Most systems run faster than most people ever utilize them... unless your converting DVDs to MPeg4 I wouldn't sweat this; if you are, don't admit to it -- just save a couple grand and build the monster 1 gig RAM, 1.5mhz P4 you need to notice any improvement in ripping times!
don't have a great "need for speed" out of the chip; just wanted to know what was possible. Hell, at the moment it's running underclocked, cuz the cheapo mobo I have it in won't run stable at 133 MHz, hehe.
Any recommendations for a Slot 1 mobo with 133 FSB? I'm shopping...
What type of p3 cpu do you want the motherboard for?
Do you want to be able to overclock with it?
Do you want ata 100?
Do you want agp x4?
Is price a high priority?
Maybe the one you have now isnt stable because of ram or video what kind of motherboard is it?
