so i install winxp. boot from cd-rom etc etc the usual.

some message pops after loading the files which are necessary (straight after the cd-rom boots is finished) that windows could not identify what type of computer this is  so there where 2 options to select i choose the Normal PC or compatible one....

install blah blah drivers blah blah software blah blah, take out the modem card I dont want any more cause i forgot.....

anyway now when i press shutdown i cant go into standby and when I press shutdown computer my computer doesnt shutdown it says its not save to turn of your computer! ahhh
simple reason for this is cause windows somehow didnt see that my pc is a normal PC (but it did the other 3 installations?)

when i go device manager and click teh computer icon it expands to show a standart computer icon?!?!? thats not normal.

anyway the PC works all is good all software works etc etc. just the auto shut down doesnt work. is there some way to force it or to make windows recognize that my pc is a normal PC even after allready installing windows.

I so dont get how windows install didnt recognize my PC as a normal PC automatically, never happened before

If the installation's still fresh, I'd say just rip out windows and install it again. I bet it just freaked out that time.

Did you change any settings in the bios? Some require that you enable the shut down options in the bios befroe Windows can make them work, as in 'soft off', hibernation, etc.
