ok, i just had to pay for a new carb on the d/b so it set me back on my plans for an SMP, with that time i have decided to find the best sub $70 chip that will have a max 150fsb, i was looking for 2ghx or higher, what do you think i shoulf get? open to anything as long as it is sub $70 and would like 2ghx or higher(remember, 150fsb MAX!) and waht would a REALLY SUPER CHEAP heatsink be? volcano 11+ any good? throw a tornado on them? open to anything and everything, just want the best CPU for my money, and with about a month to wait till i scrounge up 300 bucks i might as well find the best

Duron 1600, I have an unlocked one, easily pushes 166 x 12.5 @ 1.50v and just ordered another one for absolutely no reason...

Got it up to 11x185 at 1.5v prime stable, which is cool.

Look for a refurb 2500 at newegg for about $60.

all they got is a 2800 is the refurb section and they want $159 for it. wow when you can buy it for $144 for the retail box. and can you really trust a refurb CPU i know i cant.

but if you can find a 2500 on there for $60 and its works thats a pertty good deal then

They have new postings everyday except the weekends. You have to watch because the processors go very fast. I got 2-2500s from newegg and they were both good but were only average overclockers(2280 and 2210).

1.8 duron is only 42 bucks. not bad for a chip that should oc pretty well.

2280 and 2210 are still good numbers. and for $60 cant beat that

i think Maxvla is right there with the 1.8 Duron ive seen some 1.6 Duron hit 2500MHz. I wonder what the 1.8 will do

Either one will be a rocking system

I think Applebred 1.4, its $35. CHEAP like heck and it can overclock to 2.2 ghz guarenteed, 2.3 if good MB. I am obviously using the mobile hacks on all of mine:D.

for $79 you can get a mobile 2400 at newegg.

over at xtreme they are hitting 2.6 on air almost every time. A few of them are posting at 2.8 on air! I am picking one of them up for my new 8rda3+ (got for $5 brand new :D).

If you can take the extra $9 then you should take a look at it.

only gonna be able to run 150fsb, so what do you guys think? and would the durons need to be l-5 modded?

They will have a locked multiplier. So all of the applebreds are out of the question (13.5(1800)x150=2025) because you can never hit the chip limit on them in OCing.

I have heard the mobile unlock cant be done in SMP mode (I need to test it myself, my board will be here next week).

I heard the 2100+s are still unlocked so get them ($58).

Also there are the AXP mobiles which are guarenteeed unlocked. They start at $60 each. A barton mobile is $79 @ newegg. Tbred Mobiles are cheaper. But I read the extra cache is good for SMP rigs.

It is determined by the date of manufacture, there should be something like " 03** " ont he chip, 03 being the year, ** being the week. Everything after week 39 is locked (get one unlocked after that is like winning the lottery (the odds are tiny)). 99% of vendors sold out all the unlockeds by now.

mobile 2400+ is 79, out of my budget, for now..should i take a chance with the durons? and which should i chance it with, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8?

the durons are a good chip 1.4 is $38 1.6 is $40 and 1.8 is $42 so there all close im not sure what the muilti are on all of them if your limited to 150MHz FSB id go for the one with the highest muilti
