First things first! Here's my specs;
PIII EB processor
FSB 133 MHz x 5.5
1.65 core voltage
256 megs o RAM
i815e chipset mobo
I know I can't directly change my multiplier, so how would I go about changing my FSB and/or core voltage?
SoftFSB and CPUFSB don't support my mobo...any suggestions? Do I honestly have to take the damn thing apart to OC it?
no, you shouldnt have to take it apart for a mild overclock. you should be able to up the fsb in the bios. however you will probably have to do something about that heatsink if it's stock one

How can I change it in my BIOS? I checked out every possible menu in my BIOS and didn't find a thing that would allow me to change my FSB :( Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Are there settings for clock speed? in bios. [user define] some motherboards have settings with jumpers on the motherboard for CoreVoltage check your manual out carefully you might find out your questions there. you dont have a Compaq,Dell, Gateway, or another name brand PC do you?

Unfortunatly when I bought this comp I didn't know jack about OCing. It didn't even pop into my mind as an option when I ordered it. And yes, it is a Gateway *sigh* Probably bad news for me eh? And those ******** didn't give me a manual for my mobo or ANYTHING! All I got was a friggin "Windows User Guide" and a manual for my moniter (a lot of good that does for me!). I'm guessing I probably can't OC my cpu at all considering it's a retail POS....Oh well, next year it's off to college and I'm building my own damn comp :)

You guess rite. sorry. wish I could help there are some software programs at tweakfiles.com that can let you adjust your FSB but they don't work on every PC maybe you'll get lucky but ive never seen a name brand PC thats been overclocked that much or atleast to its full overclocking potential. goodluck

I've spent the past 3 days here and at tweakfiles.com. SoftFSB and CPUFSB don't support my mobo... I don't even wanna f- with the other programs, I'm too pissed right now. You should read about my BIOS updating experience on the Intel MotherBoard forum. Quite frankly I've had it with Intel and Windows right now . . .

Don't blame Intel for gateway's shortcomings. Companies like Gateway don't want people to get into trouble by making the wrong adjustments, which in the case of cpu settings could keep the comp from booting, resulting in a call to customer service, and possible harsh words to the help desk person.
Sure it would be nice for oems to add this little feature, and an explanation of what it does, but I think Gateway has had to eliminate this, because of numorous complaints to the tech support.
My cousin has a Gateway, and his does have a cpu setup feature. I believe it is called "cpu host frequency", and will at least let you set it to a "turbo" setting, but I think they removed it in later models.

Damn.....well that sux. Oh well, thanks for your help anyway guys, I honestly appriciate it. :)
Hey, maybe I can still juice up my video card...I don't think I honestly need to. It's a NVIDIA GeForce 2 GTS. I love it. On top of that I'm getting my broadband installed today! woohoo!

hey blinkin,
if u wanna give it a shot cpucool might just support ur mobo......
good luck
i think there is a way to get around your problems.
check what type of mobo is in the case.
MSI makes lots of mobos for gatway i think.
sometimes u could get a same mobo which is sold by MSI as a retail board.
and if so then u might be able to flash the bios with the MSI bios.
and it might have the the ocing stuff enabled.
GOD....

Sweet, all I gotta do is crack open my tower and check out my mobo then. Was just too lazy to do that earlier cause it's a bitch to plug everything back in cause the wires barely reach the tower when it's in my desk.

Please read more post about flashing your BIOS on MB such as your allot of the times the BIOS cannot be flashed [factory pc's like yours often lock the bios so it cannot be flashed] and you dont want to be left with something that is unworkable. On the otherr hand you might get lucky but either way i would do some more research before i tried to flash.

My friend has a PIII 733 MHz too and he was able to flash update his BIOS. I don't know if I'll give it a try just yet. After all I just got this comp in August and haven't had any troubles with it yet and it ain't slowin down :)
Besides, I'll be going off to college in a year and I'm gonna build up my own comp so I'll just leave this one the way it is. . . .*looks around * for now :)
