I am putting together new setup using the Abit vp6 mobo. I want to get decent overclock out of it. I was going to get two P3 700E and try to push them to 133fsb...
Now I have the accessories for this computer all running happy at 160 mhz fsb in my current AMD system. (duron and Abit KT7-A). I belive the pci divider is the same for both mobos.
So since I got memory, vid card,hdds,nic..etc capable of 160 mhz fsb, should I perhaps aim for 150-160 mhz fsb speed rather than 133 when buying the cpu's ??
I want to get close to the gig, but performance is the real issue here of course. Two Intel cpu's are expensive over here so I don't want to rush, what do you think.
One thing to keep in mind is that most dual motherboards WILL NOT run a cpu as fast as they will run on a single MB. The shared buses and all make it very critical, and I have never been able to get maximum speed out of any manufacturers dual board. I have used several sets of 700s and even though they would easily go beyond 1GHz in a regular MB, they are strained to get there on a dualie, and I have one pair that will only go about 960-980 in SMP.
Don't put yourself in a situation by pushing everything hard right out of the gate!

as far as I know, SMP actually makes computers more stable, and most OS'es that support SMP don't get a huge benefit out of it. I can see why it looks attractive, but the way things are now, i can't see a reason to get dual cpu's unless you are doing heavy stuff. I would also think that if you were folding proteins(trying to keep up in the top i see) would be much faster using two machines instead of one.

Thanks for the advice Tim, point taken.
You hit the nail on the head Dunno260 this box might be introduced to folding at home...Yes and some 3Dsmax rendering and cad crunching too.
I had a 3 years old Dual board BP6 which only had one celeron 1 366@600mhz. Recently, I just don't know what to do with that legacy system of mine. A quick thought... adding another Celeron to bring it up to date... So here it comes aother $39 celeron 1, a little money for much sense... A beautiful Dual Celeron....Never be happier than that.

i had to agree to tim- coz i had on chip on the vp6 mobo too b4 another was come. i could easily oc it over 1gig after few days burn in and do some vidpinning. but after another chip was come, i can't even boot into w2k @960MHz. damn it!! well, i hvn't try water cooling or super cooling yet!! hope they can give me more improvement!! my aim was dual 1 gig! :)
