View Full Version : Your DREAM media player?

What would your DREAM software media file player be like?
Me: It would have the same GUI as RealAudio Player 3.0 except it would have a resizeable playlist like Winamp 2.xx and a Video window that only pops up when you want to play videos. No visualizations, no skins, no music store, no "media organizer", no web browser, no CD ripping, not even an equalizer (by default). It would accept Winamp 2/5, Foobar2000, and DirectShow plugins/components/filters. It would have Digital CD playback. It would also have the Jump feature like Winamp. It would feature the mass-tagging features FB2k has. It would have ReplayGain/VorbisGain support. It would also have the extremely flexable keyboard mapping that FB2k has. It would support lossless streaming of audio files directly to other computers over a network. It would also be open source like XMMS.

Never tried foobar but winamp is horrible for video IMHO. I'd say go to www.divx-digest.com or www.doom9.org and you can already find those types :)
for video, i find VideoLAN (http://www.videolan.org/) is the best there is. Doesnt get any better then open source :)
As for anything by Real Networks...pfff...I'm ashamed to say they are Seattle based :p

ATI's File Player because it does everything I need and it has that cool thruview feature.
DBPower amp, get all the plugens for it, the music collection software, the music converter, software for you mp3 player rio ipod etc., almost any codec, its all there. I tried winamp 5 after using dbpower amp and and winamp5 is just a sad shadow compared to dbpoweramp. Also its FREEE!

Winamp 5 if everything could work...xmms I haven't liked so far but haven't messed with it much but still hasn't gotten it right.
but don't think you'll ever get the all in one media convergence watchmacallit that can beat the best at each part...
Winamp 5 is all I need it's great I don't use it for video. I use Windows media player for Video. They suit me perfectly.

True, but by knowing what everybody likes you can write an app that beats some and is close on others :) Thus making it the ultimate! :D
Winamp2 + DivX Playa + WinDVD :)

My iPod patched into my Klipsch's...?
I dunno, thats what I use now when I'm playing games. Its the only way I know of to control the volume of my music separate from the game volume. Uses no resources and arguably produces a better filtered sound than my soundcard (of course, my soundcard is a little old; Game Theater XP).
