View Full Version : C600@945 with retail hsf, temp?
I'm using my C600@945 with the retail hsf. And the temp I measure with my Abit BE 6 's thermal cable is about 43C(under load).
When I put the celeron on my friend's Asus p3vx -via(something I don't remember) we measured the highest internal temp 72 C ( but mostly the temp is around 50. I don't want to buy a new hsf . Will the temp. be a problem in the future?

IDEAL TEMPS FOR A INTEL ARE 30C-38C UNDER FULL LOAD. 43c you should be all rite but i would not let it get any higher and i think i would try to get it cooler for your own sake. Some chips will show a loss of stability at higher temps. 50c is way too hot! have you lapped your heatsink? are you using a good thermal compound? if you cant wait to order arcticsilver use radioshack compound. do you have good case cooling any fans? you have a decent system why not get 30 to 40 dollars worth of good insurance and buy a better heatsinkfan.
My PII400@560 used to get 49 C on same mobo and there wasn't any problem with it. I haven't lapped the heatsink . Is it necessary to lap? Because the hs seems flat enough to me. I have some thermal paste but I can't find anything better here . I bought the proc. for 45$ so its queite funny to give 30-40$ for cooling. But I think it you're right . It would be proper to buy a better hsf.
Will it be a problem tu run like this for a month until I buy a new hsf?

lapping is ment to polish the heatsink more so then to make it flat, if you looked at your heatsink surface through a microscope it would look like mountains and valleys and when you lapp you are taking the peaks off the top of the mountains so that there is more surface area that will contact the processor.
P2 and cellies, there is a big difference in temps I believe you can check the CPU database and see what some are running at to get a idea. you might be able to take the sidecover off your case for the time being and get your temps to drop a little. I'm not sure what the upper range or max temps are for your processor but there was a post in this forum that had intel specs check it out i would hate to tell you that your fine for now and have your chip fry
The P3V4x is infamous for giving really bad and often wrong readings off the temp diode. I have a 566 @850, and on the p3v4x, the temps go from 40ish to 61oC in a second. However, when I put it in a CUV4x, it doesn't spike like that at all, and usually stays in the 40-50 range. I'm using a golden orb, so it might not be as cool as you'd expect. I'm also using a voltage of 1.75 BTW
