Is ZoneAlarm Basic enough to protect my system by itself? Or should I buy Pro, and other various programs? I'm behind a D-Link DI-604 router, and I lock up or shut down pc when I don't use it.

The only real way to be 100% safe, is to not be connected to the internet.
But your fairly safe just because theres so many others on the internet.
IMHO Zone Alarm will do you.

Thats the thing. You DONT need ZA if you're behind a router unless you are offering services. (which you're probably not).
Being behind an off the shelf router is more than enough to protect yourself from hacking (run anti-virus too though)

i do NOT have a/v software, and don't plan to get any. Like some one said, I use common sense! TDF, its soo funny thats your screename, thats mine for AIM and various other things. This is one of the only forums or things where I didn't use that nick. Funny to stumble across someone else with the same tag!

A/V software is a necessity. I do this stuff for a living. I'd rather have NAV protect me from viruses then lame ZA. But hey, do what you want to do :)

Plus if your on a lan and someone gets infected most viruses will cross over to your pc. It happened to me when I took my pc to a high school since I was working on their linux server and I had files it needed. Like 5 min after I booted NAV blocked welchia, and several other worms/viruses... Same type of thing happened once @ a lan only like 2 guys were infected by the original and both didnt have any a/v software since they said it wont ever happen to me, remember it could happen to everyone.
ZA plus a router will give you the most security you could possibly get w/o using a A/V.

I thought the OP was asking about firewalls, I assumed it was a given that a AV would be used.
I use a Freesco router/firewall, then each of my machines has Zone Alarm and AVG. All combined with common sense.
