View Full Version : Asus Win CPU monitor or Bios temp?
My buddy just built a PIII 1GB machine on a Asus CUV266 mobo. He has a FOP-32 HSF and good case airflow (Fong Kai Case with all fans). In Win2k, using the Asus CPU temp monitor he reads 41c idle, around 45c under load. Rebooting and checking temp in the bios he reads 35c. So what is the CPU temp?
Thanks

Always believe what Bios says, rather than what a hardware monitor prog tells you. You should be able to adjust what (at least)MBM tells you by using its "compensation" feature.
If your Bios is known as a liar with the temps it reports(there are some) you're really in temperature trouble. If the Bios can't report it right, the monitoring prog takes its readings from Bios, so you'll have no idea what's up.
I suggest that your friend buys a Delta 38 for his FOP. Personally, I wouldn't use a 26 cfm CPU fan on a FOP for a 1 Gig P3E.
OK, so he's running at 35c idle. That's better. And you think a better fan would make the difference. I really wanted to see his CPU temp down to around 30c. Thanks. I'll go price those fans.

How do I find a better fan that will fit on the cooler?
Thanks

My PIII 933 FC is running 35c now.....but it's a bit warm in here now. I have the FOP32 as well. It's well lapped tho. Consider lapping the HS and it may give you another couple degrees c.
I assume you're using artic silver or something equally qualified and not the pink pad that came on the HSF?
You can also mount an 80mm fan to that HS for another couple degrees. need more infor lemme know and I'll go find it. (better to email me to ask tho) Unless some of the kind folks here have a link to the page that shows the little trick of flipping the mounting brackets that come with it to fit the 80mm fan.
Thanks Shadow, I emailed you. That bracket flip trick web site would be nice to look at. If anybody has the addy. Thanks.

I tried my best to find the link and even asked anyone I knew on ICQ but couldn't get an answer..........so I did it myself and took a pic. Sorry it's not better but the camera only had enough life in the batteries to take 1 more pic.
Anyway........here ya go.

just streach the wires a bit. doesn't take any tools and I hear you can get pretty good results from doing this. (yes that's an 80 mm fan on top)
Wow, thanks for all that work. I see. OK, we can do this.
