The system:
-not overclocked yet

-western digital 36 GB raptor 10,000rpm hooked up to the first sata
-60GB Maxtor pata drive
-cd-rw drive
-dvd drive
-bios version 2.1

The problem:
windows will not boot when WinXP is installed on the sata drive

I have tried the 3 other drives in every possible setup. Depending on the setup I either get a black frozen screen when the WinXP logo should first apear or I get an option to select between winxp and the unknown os on drive C (drive c is the sata drive where xp is installed)

It will work if I remove any one of the 3 other drives though. As long as the remaining 2 drives are on the same ide cable. So my temporary solution has been to just ditch my dvd drive. I have a dvd burner on the way though, so I would like to get this fixxed.

Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it.

What I do when I install an OS on the SATA:

1. Update to latest BIOS
2. Connect only the SATA disc and one CD.
3. In BIOS, under onchip-sata settings:
a. Set enchanced mode
b. A new option is lit above, (IDE/RAID), set to RAID
c. A new otion is lit just below, (RAID BIOS Enabe/Disable), set to enable
4. Set first boot device to CD-ROM
5. Save + exit.
6. Install WinXP and insert the SATA driver disc when promted.

I'm not really sure about the exact names on the settings under the SATA settings page, but try fiddle around to get to the settings I've mentioned...
