Hi guys. I just installed XP Pro and current specs are in my sig. Whenever i try to install drivers or software and it needs to make a restore point or something, it stalls for about 30 mintues then actually starts to get "working" and finishes installing. Is there any patch or something to help make this fly by faster? I have not gone to windows update yet since i still think it's just bs. After i updated to sp4 for my windows 2000, it totally got screwed up and i had to reformat the thing. So any help please? Thanks.

If you have that 250 gig drive in your system look here (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;303013) .You will need to make a slipstreamed cd with the sp included so you will have support for the large drive.

I already have it showing up free of problems. It's just that my installation of programs are super slow.

Yes. It's just that anything i try and install no matter what size or whatever it is just stalls forever and never even installs. I always have to cancel it now. >_<
Thanks for any help!

Thr maxtors that died, were they connected along with the 250 when they died?

Yes they were. I don't see how that could have affected it though. I also forgot to mention i fdisked the 250gb before installing xp on it. So it was fresh but installs things super slow. Even if it's a 5400rpm hdd, it wouldn't stall for over 30minutes when installing something now would it guys? It's just stupid.

I had the same thing happening to my system for awhile. Not really when installing but just freezes while doing something, and defrag would tell me it couldn't run and i needed to run chkdsk but in windows it wouldn't run.I could get it to run from command prompt through the repair console and it would find and fix errors and all would go ok for a few days and it would start again.
I was using another maxtor as a backup drive.I ran maxtors software and all drives checked ok ok.One day during boot the bios said "smart drive, run backup now disc failure may be iminent"
I reran maxtors software and the backup drive didn't pass the smart feature.I removed it and tried to reinstall but windows complaind that the partition had unrecoverable errors.Turned out i had to do a low level on my main discs and then things were ok.
I hope you find an easier fix.
