View Full Version : VIO
what do i get with a higher VIO voltage?
when should i raise it?
thanks.
this is the voltage that memory, the northbridge, your agp card and a few other components get their voltage from, increasing it will help stabalise your system if memory or the northbridge chip is holding you back from getting a higher fsb, you should not really go over 3.5v though

Phil, you forgot to tell him this may need to be used when you overclock.. =0

Im at 3.8volts for I/O, no problems. System stable..now.
to start with Spacepiston 1.8v is not a valid vio voltage, anything around 3.3v or above is, this sounds more like you vcore voltage but in your sig it says 1.95v, in which case I don't know what you are measuring unless you are using motherboard monitor and it has detected your motherboard wrong
secondly ƒ~ƒ‹ƒN•² I might not have actually mentioned overclocking but I said it will help you get a higher fsb which is overclocking

Typo.
easy mistake, thats what the edit buttins is there for which you have obviously used which makes my post look a little silly :(
I'd be careful at 3.8v make sure you have good air flow near you dimms, I would usually say 3.8v is the max you should go with 3.5v being a safer voltage

Actually, the modified Alpha I have has 2 small fans on the sides, one of which blows directly onto the dimms. I agree, I am pushing it:) Gotta take chances when you want that overclock:)

Phil...did you ever receive my email? I emailed you about the I/O /northbridge, but you never replied back......

i like 3.5V, it is safe and helps make eveything more stable....
oh and ABIT uses that as the defualt even though it should be 3.3V

I have it and it has stumped me a bit, I'll let you know when I can think of something

Thanks, Phil...
I'm just trying to find out becase I dont know if getting Rev-3 (Mushkin-Infineon cas2 guaranteed at 150 fsb) or Crucial PC133 cas2 will help things or not, or if it will just be a waste of $.
I already put Arctic silver II on a fan/heatsink (low profile as the secc2 partially blocks the chipset) on the BX.
it doesn't sound like a ram issue after reading it in depth, the only idea I have had thus far is that too much heat is being transfered from either the cpu or northbridge to the motherboard pcb which is why the fan aimed at the board helped, you may also want to try cooling the clock gen
