What the hell? With this here Celly 566@850 1.5v I can run Prime95 torture test for hours and hours on end...but when I launch into ANY game the rig locks up within minutes? WTF is going on? Anybody ever encounter a problem like this before?

Sounds like your Video Card doesnt like the overclock. Try to keep your pci & agp bus speeds as close to default as possible. Increase your I/O voltage a tad.

This is a common sign of not quite enough voltage, and extra 0.05v would probabally do it, I think what happens is the chip is fine at that voltage running ay cpu intensive work, but when the graphics card starts working it probabally causes less current to be supplyed to the cpu

I'm not sure about any option.
(1) @850, a Celeron 566 is at 100FSB, which means the AGP/PCI is exactly 66/33. It can't be any closer to spec.
(2) I have no way to increase the I/O voltage, as this is a 440BX board.
(3) I have cranked the voltage all the way up to 1.85V @850, and the lockups are still occurring.

I've been working on the HSF too, lapping the hell out of it. (It's rather shiny now.) No luck.

Is it possible this CPU simply doesn't love me anymore? I had it @994 for a while rock solid, then it started locking up...

Borrow another video card- sure sounds like video to me. The cpu is fine if it can run torture tests when overclocked. What video card do you have?

I am assuming that you are using a good thermal interface, like Arctic Silver or such. What are your temps? What is your top speed that you CAN play games at?

My 600 maxed out with aircooling at 855, 1.85V. With watercooling, I lowered temps 17C (39C to 22C at 20C ambient) and could do 945 at 1.90 volts. I would be very careful going above 1.85V, but it may be the key to getting more out of that chip.

DUDE OMFG!!!!!
Mystery solved!!

Of all the F***ing bull**** things that can go wrong...

IT WAS A BAD DIMM

Jesus...it was a 128MB DIMM all along! System runs just fine, boots OK, runs Prime95 Torture Test for days on end ok...but the moment I hit a game, POW! System hangs!!

Unbelievable! Thank god I found it though...yanked that DIMM and all of a sudden games run! Have less RAM tho... :(

Guess I should buy some memory, heh

Real glad ya got it figured out Reb. Kinda had me worried as we had talked about my running at 2.05v

Great to hear good news. Glad ya found the culprit.

The thing I hate most about comuters is trouble shooting, it is so hard to track down problems, especially when the computer won't even power up sometimes

yep. so many components in a computer. i overlooked 1 component, and it was the one the whole time that was bad. :(

but thanks for all your suggestions and support everybody! :)

With me I usually end up with the computer not powering up, I end up taking it all apart and rebuilding it peice by peice and it just works, no reason
