Hi all,

I've just done a mild overclock of a P3,1000 to 1065Mhz at 1.85V. I'm using a GORB and my temps are 34 C idle and 37 C full load according to Sandra.

I know the GORB ain't a great cooler but atm this system is rock-solid stable (i.e. Unreal T loops for hours as does 3Dmark2001 and the SiSandra burn-in test).

Increasing the voltage isn't getting me any further overclock and I know if I get better cooling I may get 150 or even 155 system bus speed, which happens to be the max that my board can go to (at least through Softbios II Menu).

However, would better cooling allow me to go higher at 1.85V ? I don't really wanna go higher than 1.85V if I can help it.

Any input would be appreciated :)

Mike G

I dare to say it's your memory holding you back. Pushing memory beyond specs doesn't normally yield good results. The exceptions on this site are well documented, but the most successful overclocks are of 700mhz with 100 FSB to 1ghz, not a PIII 1000 already at 133 FSB overclocked. This is probably the difference. You can coll the CPU all you want, but if the RAM won't go too bad.

The other side, is to say that some 1ghz chips are tweaked by Intel (like the 750 mhz). You may not get anything when you push an already overclocked chip.

You can safely push your voltage up to 1.95 for a short time if you still feel unconvinced. I recently overclocked a stubborn 700 PIII to 933, with a core voltage of 1.90+ and 43 C core temp. Way too hot, but very stable. Some chips need to be beaten into submission!!! I've had other overclocks that stagger the mind (667 celeron to 1 ghz with intel hsf and 1.75 volts)

Hi Mike if you want to hit 155 fsb like i have then i would say upgrade your memory. I am at 155 fsb using 1.9 cv now. Its very very stable and cpu temps are good. Check out my sig for the combo that should get you to 155 fsb. Good Luck. >:)

Hey guys you are right - I had completely forgotten about the ram speed question !

In Sandra my Siemens 128mb stick is only rated to Cas 3 at 133 Mhz, so I guess it's doing well to be be chugging away at 142 Mhz Cas 2 :)

Corsair memory seems to be quite hard to get here in the UK but I've heard good things about Micron 133 Mhz Cas 2 being good for 150Mhz. I can definately get Micron so I may check that out.

Cheers guys :)
