View Full Version : p3 733 any suggestions
hello all,
i am a newby at this and have read a lot of the articles and see that heat is one of the main problems.i have added extra fans to my asus cuv4x mobo and have my 733@853 155fsb and tested it with the asus probe and sisoft sandra. temp is 30c and stable but i have not touched the voltage yet.has anybody tried this combo and maxed it out and if so how much more do you think i can get.

you would only be able to get higher with extra voltage if it is the cpu holding you back, at a 155mhz fsb I would think that it would be the memory holding you back unless you are running the ram at hostclk-pciclk in which case extra voltage should get you a bit higher
Also, I noticed you have a lot of RAM. Is it all from the same batch by the same manufacturer. If not you could try to pull some of the RAM to see if any of the sticks are holding you back.

A little off topic...well maybe not. Just a cooling idea for you. Probably want to put a fan inthe bottom right of your case (I would put two seeing as how there is space). Then round the cables to get them out of the way (cut them into threads and tape them together, it allows more airflow). This will help cool your system quiet a bit. Cooling and stability go hand in hand. Also I can't tell how that third fan is set up. Is it just sitting over the board? Do you have it venting out the side of the case?

Just looked at your setup again. If that center fan is not getting air in from the side of your case than you have some major cooling problems. You got no air comming in and only your power supply fan exhuasting air (it sucks at that too). Sandra is probably giving you the wrong temp. It says mine is 10C lower than it probably is. But also rember airflow is much more important than number of fans.
thanks for the tips, there is a typeo... the ram installed is 256 (2@128 sticks) pc 133 and they are from different makers.in asus probe it says 1 stick is single sided and 1 is double sided ?? also i leave the side of the case open for cooling circulation.in sandra it says my model info is p6c (coppermine)pentium 3 e(b) 500 and the stepping is cbo.i tried raising the voltage to 1.8v but no change, just got the black screen.i read somewhere in the forum that the p3 733 was a 500 clocked to 133 fsb,if that is the case then i think i have settle at 852.
once you start o/cing it's hard to stop,i was hoping to get near 1ghz but i think i would be better getting a cely 700 they seem to be a good chip to o/c.
