I just got a PIII 850 and am having some probs with the temps for now. But I have no doubt that in time I will be able to push it a little. I had an old PIII 850 and had it at 1000+ but it was a crappy OEM version so I grabed a retail version. Do you have one yet or are you just wondering?
I don't have one yet.
I am ordering a 133 FSB system, but wondering
whether I should buy a P3 850 at 100FSB to oc
or a P3 1G at 133FSB w/o oc.
My system will be:
Asus CUV4X-D (dual P3)
256MB PC133 x 2
IBM 7200RPM IDE 40GB
Asus Geforce3

That is a very good question. If you oc to 133 fsb that would take it to 1130 MHz. Unless you have some pretty good cooling you are going to have some probs. I'm thinking peltiers or water. Might just want to get GHz if your cooling might not be sufficient. Sounds like a tight setup though once you get it.
I had before this AMD setup ,a P III 850 cBO @1190mhz running for 5 months.
Without the Vapo the most i could get out of the chip was 1020mhz stable, this was with an ALPHA 6035.
Its the luck of the draw, i have seen some people having trouble getting to 950 ish, and others get 1133mhz with air??
The P III @1190mhz and the trusty "OLD" BX was ( and still is) A VERY FAST COMBO.!!
Good Luck!!

I have an OEM 850 which I've had @ 1007 stable for about half an hour....guess I cant really say that's stable then eh? But I was able to play Quake III, Run Seti/Folding until my substandard heat sink crapped out due to heat exahustion :) I've heard heat is an issue w/ the 850 for some reason...maybe just the OEM?
Ordered a CAK38 or whatever it's called....All copper w/ a big ass fan. I'm currently using a copperbase/alumnium finned sink. I'ts just not cutting the mustard. I tried 1.13 a few times w/ up to 1.95 volts but It was just too hot.
Good luck!
I run 933 stable on standard 1.65 voltage
I can't see this happening the chances are 1 in a million, I have only ever heard of 1ghz p3's reaching this speed with extra voltage and this is probabally because they are the 1.13ghz p3's that intel couldn't get to work
If you can i would go with the P3 1 gig. It already runs at a default FSB of 133x7.5. Now in the future if you have the $$, you can get it to run at 150 FSB and up if you have decent ram and other hardware. I run mine right now at 155 FSB with only and Alpha PAL 6035, its stable at all times for hours on end and with that FSB I am running its fast as hell. The P3 1 GIG and mobo were $328 when i got it might even be cheaper now.
