View Full Version : Need help with my Celeron 566MHz.
My S code is SL46T. I have this CPU for about 2-3 weeks and it ran at 850MHz / 1.95v out of the box. I tried to burn-in my CPU for about 1 week and I didn't see any improvement. I used Burn-in Wizard from SiSoft Sandra. Is it the right way to burning-in? What else can I do? It ran OK at 75, 83, 100 FSB. I wish it run at 876MHz+
567MHz / 1.4v
638MHz / 1.55v
706MHz / 1.65v
850MHz / 1.9v w/o game
850MHz /1.95v w game
876MHz /2.0v w/o game and blue screen
952MHz /2.05v blue screen
c566MHz@850MHz / 37C
Abit BX6r2
Platinum Orb
192MB PC133 RAM
ATI 3d rage pro turbo AGP2x (Will change to GF2-Pro soon)
SB-MP3 Live 5.1+
Matrox ATA-33 Hard drive (Will change to IBM soon)

Well, actually 850 MHz is about average. Some do better, some don't. What are the various settings you're using in bios? What are ya using for cooling? What PSU are ya using? What is your system doing/not doing?
250w box with, 100FSB 1/3, x8.5, AGP2x, 2/3 = 66.
memory 2-2-2.
Should I burn in my CPU some more? Or maybe, I should buy another one.
I have a 566 cBO and the same motherboard as you.
hmm 1.95 is a bit of a high voltage for 850.
my chip runs arround 32 C with my alpha pal 6035
I keep it happy at 850 with 1.7v. 1.65 works but sometimes it won't start up when i reset.
I can run ~952 with 1.8-1.85
995 works but it gets hot and random errors happen. (what do you expect with 768 megs of ram)
850 is pretty good. I'd keep the chip. I've tried a celeron 600 and it works at 900 at 1.75 v on my board too. if you want to run stable at 100 fsb then the 600 might be better.
I dont know how lutawicasa got this "Cel.566@ 1054" air cooled. must be an excelent chip. do you actually run at this and what voltage are you using. my chip has been up this high but not on my board. I havent tried using more than 1.95 volts. I dont want to burn it out yet.

burning in is not an instant thing. Some CPUs need as little as a day, some need two weeks to do, most will achieve it and get just a little faster after that.

I'm assuming the CPU is a cB0. cC0 is better. My old cB0(RIP) would only POST at 877 (103FSB) tops in a BH6 with an Iwill Slocket.
Since I got my cC0, Soyo 6VCA, new PSU and UPS I get 1003Mhz POST.
What slocket have you got? My Abit slocket would only POST @ 877, with 2.0Volts. I've got a Soltek slocket, and I get 850 100% stable @1.8volts.
Try using Stability Tester to burn it. I D/L'd it from the D/L page at http://www.spodesabode.co.uk.
SETi is also very good at burning in CPUs.

i got my OEM HP (finally) to overclock.
Celeron 533 cBo chip at default voltage with the stock fan, all the way to 800mhz (using CPUFSB)....after a while (30 min or so) it finally blue screens.....this is with folding@home and SETI@home running. Not bad considering everything else is stock.
markedmundb-- OK. I have Abit slocket with cB0 stepping. So, that a problem right? Look like I have to buy a new one with Soltek slocket. How about P3-700MHz. Will it be a problem with OC.
spazzed86-- I'm new here; i would like to know what is PSU and UPS?
dunno260-- I'm trying to burn in some more. However, it looks like this stepping cB0 will not speed up a lot.
Thank everyone.

Hi i`am haveing the same problem 566@850 @1.85 it will run @ 1.80 but i have some crashes in Q3 so i bumped it it`s been rock solid @ 1.85 i have it on a Abit slockett !!! on a abit BH6 SS bios with a Gorb and arctic silver
it seems like it wants to run @ 952 but it gets right to starting win98 then hangs i`ve tryed volts to 2.0 same thing i just bought a stick of 128 megs of cheapo pc 133 ram from best buy to see if that was holding me back man it was so close but wouldnt go my temp is around 32%C idle to 43%C running Q3 for a couple hours dur you think it`s the temp ? my settings in the bios are user define bus 100,agpclk/cpuclk 2/3 L2 cache latency Default speed error hold enabled SEL100/66# high master drive pio mode Auto all of them are on auto SDR 3,3,3 .............. thanks for any Help

1. The chip is cBO not the slotkit.
2. PSU is your power supply
3. Run folding@home
dont keep buying 566's till you get a winner because alot of them will not go above 850. if you buy a new chip buy something like a celly 600 and run it at 100 fsb so its at 900mhz
Robert,
The Soltek SL02A++ is a great slocket. I use one with my C600, and have never had a problem with it, up to 117 FSB. I've been noticing a lot of people having problems with those Abit !!! slockets, though.....
IF you decide to get a different chip, play with the C566 for a while, save up the $$ and get a P/// 700E flip chip (FC-PGA, ie, s370). This costs a bit more than a C600 (ok, quite a bit), but will blow the doors off of a Celeron with ease.

I'm sure somebody will get upset about this, but people lose the Orbs. When running default or a little above Voltages they're fine, but when you're going to kick'er in the a$$ it isn't enough. Don't forget case cooling. If you're not getting good airflow through your case it doesn't matter what HSF you have as you are simply circulating air thats already hot. Some peeps have generic ram that is fine, I've not had that luck. Spend the little extra and get good ram, it can make things sooo much easier. Don't expect 75% oc's. When they happen, it's a wonderful thing but not the norm. Don't be afraid to push a little, just don't shove. I guess I'm done for now :)
i agree wuth the above post i have a WBK 38 on my celly and its flying at 1020 mhzwith 1.9v the orbs can only haddle up tp 1.8v then it starts to die because of heat problems invest in a good cooler if you think about it would you rather run in a temp of 38 C or 48 C
celly 566@1020
Hi i hear ya i just bought a FOP 38 with the screamer on it :) it should work better than this Gorb .i do have decent air flow in my case a front intake fan and a rear outake fan and i reversed the power supply fan so it doent blow hot air onto the cpu but i still have cheapo pc 100 memory i`ll half to order some goodstuff it`s so cheap now which is great .thanks for the help :)
LutaWicasa-- you are absolutely right. If I use my 'Platinum' Orb under about 1.9v, it should be OK.
Now, I run it at 1.95v. However, my CPU temp will go up to 47C when I play game. I think that too high for me. I can not imagine what it will happen during summer time.

1.9V is extremely high for 850. Are you sure it doesn't work at 1.7V with 850? (Intel actually manufactures Celeron 800's to run 1.7V).
Junk that Platinum Orb. RIGHT NOW. Celeron's don't exactly make a ton of heat, but at higher voltages/clockspeeds heat will be generated more rapidly and you need a good HSF to get that heat out of there. If you are serious about reaching 1ghz with a Celeron you need to buy a serious HSF, like the ALPHAs with Delta screamer, Globalwins, or Thermoengine with screamer. These HSFs were designed for the Athlon T-birds, which dissipate more heat than a nuclear reactor. :D
47C is way way too hot for an Intel chip. That kind of temp is more in line with an AMD chip really. You need to either lap that Plat. Orb and use Arctic Silver II, or you need to junk it. Plain and simple.
Now, I become more understand about OC.
Thank everyone.
