Just tested P3 500 on my computer! There is big difference...
3Dmark2000, default benchmark(1024x768x16)
Celeron 466A: 1675marks
P3 450@500 : 2683marks (2530marks at 450MHz).

Amazing what the memory bandwidth at the higher FSB setting, and the better L2 of the P/// will do for you, isn't it??

Yeah.. and even with half speed L2 cache on P3! Cel A uses fullspeed
L2 but only 128kt.. P3 has 512kt L2. I'm going to get >600MHz P3 as
soon as possible.

why would you buy a p3 600 with 512k . its not even a coppermine chip. You probably cant overclock this chip at all. the p3 coppermines have 256k. You should save your money and buy a p3 700e or celeron 600.

I'm not going to buy Slot1 P3 600. I need Slot1->FCPGA adapter and
P3 coppermine 600-700MHz processor... Celeron is out of my plannings.

They do make a slot 1 P/// 600E Coppermine. This is the version that I have in the rig now. Damn fine chip, too. I must confess, most don't o/c as well as the one I have ( I got lucky).

I'd go with the P/// 700E flip chip, a Soltek SL02A++ slocket, and an Alpha PEP66T hsf. I've got a Celeron 600 stuck between the other two componenets mentioned here, and it works awesome. Stable, fast, and very cool. I'd opt for the P/// over the C II though, much superior chip.
