Hey guys mnaybe you can help. I just purchased an Intel P4@1.7, but the cpu only post 850??? what the heck is going on here. I've tried raising the fsb but every time i increase 1MHz it won't post. Nooo this sucks!!! I tried taking it back to the store where i purchased it and they checked it out and said that the warranty was voided!!! They said my LN2 setup voided the warranty. I'm pissed I have an 805 P4 with 512MB of Rambus. Please can anyone offer any solution???????
(by the way its has never posted higher than 850)
Thanks
I dont know anything about P4's what is a LN2?
If you bought the cpu in a retail package maybe intel will replace it.
I have heard that some of the P4's have unlocked multipliers. Have you tried setting that? What type of motherboard do you have? Hopefully it will let you set the multiplier.

I'm running an Abit TH7-RAID. I bought the CPU OEM and the place were I purchased it said that they wouldn't honor the warranty since I was cooling with liquid nitrogen :( So now the darn thing won't post higher than 850. I read something about the P4's having a throttle control where when the cpu puts out to many watts it slows the processor down? Is this true? If so could it be the root of my problems?
i dont no to much about the p4 either but i read that same artical and and when it over heats it throttles down to half its speed witch is what yours looks to be doing what is the temp of your cpu i cant see it being that high if your cooling with LN but maybe its not contacting right or something i hope you find the problem because damn that is a fast cpu if you can get to 1.7 then o/c it to 2gig lol 2gig **** thats crazy but its doable with the p4

there is a throttling system on the p4, when it starts giving off more than a certain amount of whats of heat (I think it is about 75W) it throttles down to half the clock speed, I have not heard from anyone who has seen this in affect so don't know how it works, but a possibility is that the flash freezing process that you did with the ln2 has damaged the contact between the silicon and thermal plate (solids shrink at low temps) so it may not be disapating enough heat, it does sound like you have ruined the chip though I'm afraid

you should be able to almost get to 2ghz without the drastic cooling..... try it with air first.

should have gone amd. :) Anyway, I'm with phil. And since it's 850, that's half of 1700, so it could have been damaged and just doing the idle'ing. Go buy another one and swap it with the old one.
