Is the router set to DHCP? Have you tried to give the system a static ip? Have you gone to a cmd window and givin it this command

ipconfig /release yet? What is the ip the the system is getting?

Are you getting link activity or even just a link light?

Try this from a cmd prompt

netsh int ip reset

You can read more about it here (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;299357&Product=winxp)

Gotta go close up shop. Check back with you later.

This may sound stupid but have you installed the nic drivers? What the lan ip of the router? and what did you set as a static ip on the system?

Have you tried plugging into a different port on your router, restarting the router or resetting it? Is this something that just happened or did you install a new peice of software or hardware? Is the other computer that works fine setup on that router? If the 2 computers are networked together can they see each other? How are you so sure that the router works fine?

I have a Linksys router here are a couple of things to check
1. make sure you see the port lighte on
2. acess the router using the lan ip add
3. make sure you dont require a user name and password
4. check for connection type e.g. PPPoe
5. make sure DHCP is enabled (it is on mine)

And one more thing hook the modem up the the computer directly and if you get on line then you might have to adjust the settings in the router

I will try hooking up the modem

YES, nic dreivers are installed

NOTE: the problem originated when I went to a friends house and had a LAN game on a HUB, not router

Oop's, sorry, I forgot to add the file name to the end of that command. Try this one

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Take the cover off your pc and check your nic to make sure it is properly seeted. The 'travel' to/from your lan part may have dislodged your nic.

Are you running it as a wired or a wireless router ?

Are you running a software firewall or the firmware in the router?

I got the ip add. 169........ when setting up my network

i went into the firewall program went to firewall then zones and and it showed the 2 ip address so i had to apply the one i know is my network then restart then delete the 169.... add. and it workes fine
