View Full Version : What grit sandpaper to use to lap a copper memory sink?

The title says it all.I have some flower & BGM copper sinks coming for my 9800XT and dont know what drit to start with on the sinks and what to end with also.Any help would be great.

They aren't already good?

They don't need to be super flat, as the memory isn't flat. They should be good enough to start with.

If you still want to lap them, just lap it like you would a cpu heatisnk, going up to like 800 and then higher for a mirror finish if you want one.

I havent got them yet but Im thinking they will not be very smooth with maybe some scratchs like most.I will start with 220 then and stop with 600.Thx

Ive lapped ALOT of CPU's in the last year. I start with 220 Then Goto 400, Then to 600, Then to 800, Then i go to the mirror finishing and i use 1200 grit. 1200 grit Is kind of Just a polishing cloth, Its not gritty at all, It has more of a checker board Texture to it.

But as i said, go higher than 600 if you want that GOOD finish.
